She said/He said Who's right? Who's wrong? No one!

Mine are all spazzy and won't stay still long enough to get a pic, so I had t o hold them...lol Ok, first Mom and Dad:

Dad

Mom

And here are their kids:

This one has the most white

And this is my Spitz/nn (without the nn....lol)

Elvis is the Daddy and my nn Olive is the mommy.

Now I need to see if I can find the first batch last years pics....

61 days old and REALLY easy to tell. Boys have prominent pink wattles, girls have none to speak of. And the boys are crowing.
My boys wattles weren't much bigger than the girls when they started crowing and it gave them away...lol Now after puberty I know my Elvis's wattles became huge in comparrison...lol

I have one boy and one girl with beautiful, even spangling. All else being equal they will be keepers. All but one have lovely forward swept crests. Anyone know what the APA specifications are for this breed? I ought to buy the book but my "Fancy Feather Footed Easter Eggers" couldn't be found in it.

That's just because I never had them!

I am so tired of boring Red Sex Links that I am loving my theme this year of black-and-white, black, blue and lavender birds. Next year I want to add some duckwings, but not bantams so maybe Sulmtaler if I like them. Right now those three don't have any personality, they are just there, much like the RSL.

I introduced the littles to a couple handfuls of scratch today, now that they are showing more interest and less fear of me. I had them at my feet almost instantly.

Growing with a vengeance! They're a wk old and have doubled in size! I need to put em outside but I don't want to loose the bond were creating!
Mine has been inside for 6 weeks now. I only feed her the duck crumbles and I swear she's got no bad smell. But we went digging for worms the day before yesterday (she absolutely loved it) but then yesterday she had some bad poops, I mean really bad. Not doing that again while she still lives in the house. I ordered her first duck diaper so she can walk around the house whenever she wants!
I don't have calls, but my babies are growing! Blue Spitzhauben pullet Blue Spitzhauben cockerel Silver Spitzhauben pullet The Spitz boys are already crowing! I have turkeys hatching Friday, and then again in a week along with some random local farm eggs that I have no idea what laid them. Should be fun!
Very nice birds! Good luck on the hatches! I had a couple broodies sneak eggs under them and I didn't catch them in time, they had development. So after the eggs hatched, I stuck the remaining ones in the incubator. No idea when they will hatch (I mean, an exact date). So that should be a surprise too!

Frieda took Fudge and the feedstore chicks out for the first time today (of course, my removing the hardware cloth from the pop door may have had something to do with it

And a dust bath in real dirt for the first time in a couple weeks...

Ok, I have a weird situation. My broody duck should be about to hatch her ducklings any day now. I'm not positive of the date, because she laid the eggs over a couple of weeks, and I noted that she started sitting more consistently on May 9th/10th, guessing a due date of around June 6th (in 3 more days!) but actually it could happen any time, because she sat on them partially over those initial 2 weeks. So anyway....

I found an egg in her pool yesterday. Submerged, but intact membrane, almost no shell. Pieces of shell around the air cell end, but the rest was just membrane. I assumed she had just laid it. I know it wasn't there the day before. So I took it inside to dispose of it. As I was about to drop it in my kitchen sink garbage disposal, I realized it was kinda dark and heavy. So I candled it, and it was one of the eggs she had been sitting on!!! It was obviously dead, very soaked from laying in the pool, but it looked to be a very developed duckling. I haven't opened it yet. Was debating about it, but I know I will do it this evening. (probably within the plastic bag?)

But why would she have done this? It could not have been easy for her to get it in the pool. Its probably 60 feet away from her nest, plus the sides of the pool are 15" high, they have steps to get in and out. So how did she get it in there, and why?? Anybody have any ideas or thoughts?
