She said/He said Who's right? Who's wrong? No one!

I hear unpopped pop corn is supposed to do well lowering humidity in incubators.

Lowering is not a problem for me I just run a near dry incubation I add only a couple of cc of distilled water every 2 or 3 days raising humidity in the bower is a chore 4 sponges in 4 pans I've had to rewet every day I don't know what the count is .right now close to 20 or more out of 30 something I didn't count when I put them in .what is the humidity around your incubator you need to know that .My incubators run about 20% lower than the air around them the bower about 20% higher except on very hot days. then for some reason they drop about 10% lower .strange huh. well I'm off to set eggs.

I don't have problems with humidity at all. We are just playing around with ways to help people who do.

I think all my problems can be solved with new incubators and a better brain . and maybe some sleep in the morning I'll start again.
My LG humidity is greatly affected by the a/c and house temp. Before it started getting warm outside I did not have a problem with keeping my humidity levels good. Now that we have the a/c running (a/c dehumidifies the air) my humidity will drop. If we leave for the day (we usually have it set higher) then when I get home my humidity is quite a bit higher. It can go from 35% to 26% easily. The environment seems to affect the LG a lot. I have a hova-bator sitting right next to it. No problems with it at all. Yes the humidity fluctuates some, but just a few percentages. I check the hovabator, but I have to baby sit the LG. I do get great hatches from the LG but it is just a lot of work.

They usually suggest placing them in a room that the temp and humidity can be controlled. Mine are not. I don't really have a place that do that.

I will also mention, depending on where you live will make a diff also. I live in the Louisiana and the humidity is so high most of the time I can run dry at 35%. Since I am running the a//c I had to add a small amount of water to get what I wanted.

So do I have humidity problems, yes if you look at the fact it don't hold on hits own, but I know my incubators quarks, so No. I just have to play its little game.

xs 2. I have great hatches in my lg, but it's definitely a job and I feel I earn it. Ambient temps and humidity does extrememly effect them. I have mine in a pretty good place so usually my temps and humidity fluctuations are small. Every once in a while it will get tempermental on me, but, for an LG, it's nt too bad.

I will be setting my eggs this afternoon. Unless someone throws out another egg or two before I get them ready and in there, I will be setting 18. I have three eggs designated for every night candling, any I collect today before I set will also be designated for the candling experiment. I have 3 eggs from each of my 5 pullets. I am concerned about the size of my silkie and my polish's eggs, they still seem to be a bit on the small side, so if they are not survivors it will not surprise me, but we are going to find out. The other 3, I am comfortable with and expect something. So, this may or may not be my normal high rated hatches. I normally say a prayer over my eggs when I set them (not to mention any time I have a heat spike

) and I will be saying a big one for these guys. I am surprised I am as nervous as I am, but for me pullet eggs are unknown territory and I will likely be on pins and needles until something happens so I feel like a newbie again...lol Here's to set day!

same here we're in the middle of Tn. about 20 miles west of the exact center. Our house is 150 plus years old no ac and gas space heaters. go back about half way through the thread and you'll see what I did for the cold as well as the heat. I started eggs last night when I opened my Farm innovators from TSC the humidity slots were completely dry and the humidity was 40% I will add 5 cc of water today I have been able to keep the temp stable but still have to watch for spikes .I have plans to build a monster incubator soon that will be able to stand in a snow storm or 100 + heat and not be affected. already in the works double bread oven lower oven is for rising bread top for baking. 2 in. foam flat roof insulation will replace what's there now already have these things. needless I'm going to cook a lot of chickens .
