She said/He said Who's right? Who's wrong? No one!

I am back from two days of north woods dirt biking and I can tell you that I am starting to feel my age. I need to do something about that...

Just before we left I had a funny feeling that the redwood incubator wasn't working quite right. So since my cabinet is stable, I moved all my just locked down eggs to a hatcher drawer and raised the humidity. Good thing...I came home tonight and found the redwood at 106F. Not sure what happened, but it took a full turn and a half to bring it down to temp. I am glad it was empty.

I opened the cabinet and moved the eggs back to the redwood once it was at temp and humidity. Hatch date is Tuesday, so I hope I didn't disturb anyone too much. Good sized air cells and no peeping yet, so I figured the risk was pretty low. I want to watch the buggers hatch, so the picture window box is where they are.

After moving those, I took advantage of the open incubator to do a quick spot candle. All 18 bantam eggs are showing good development at day 3. Pale egg shells are like cheating.

I found another stink bomb in the ISA Browns. One note, when I candled it, it looked almost like an egg going into lockdown. It didn't have a clear look about it like it had the other day when set or like the other eggs did; it had a solid, dark look just below the air cell. And when it hit the garden, I could hear it pop. Ugh. Glad it's raining to wash some of the stench away.

I don't see any development in the Eggy egg. It doesn't look like it's spoiling yet either, but it may be a dud.

And since many of you probably don't visit the turkey thread, take a look at my solution for the 152g egg. It's a few posts down.

OK!! They are set!! I ended up putting 21 eggs in the ole LG at 12:10pm. I have SIX reserved for my candling progress pics (and effects experiment) including one of my greens. Those six will be candled every day to show progression. I am going to try to do the others only at 7/14/18. (NOTE I SAID TRY.) I decided to hand turn this batch as well. My hygrometer is all out of whack, and I live in a podunk town and have no interest driving 45 minutes to get to a "real" store, to find a decent one, so I am going by the variance I found during the salt test, (yes, I can do basic math

) and I am running completely dry (which should put me right around my 30% mark), and will monitor the air cells for confirmation.

Hopefully my bator will even out because once again, I have one side running warmer than the other...grrrrrr.

You know me, half serious posts, half umm....
This is my serious one. I'm looking forward to seeing one of your hatches from beginning to end. You have to give good updates, because I'm sure you will be much more involved than me

Awww all the cute babies!

Thanks! Finally have enough to compete with Yorkshire. Wanna buy a few?
Is it time to candle yet???

I think Brinsea needs to pay Scflock for all that advertising he's doing for them.

This gets my vote as the most impressive hatch on the thread. Great job! Looks like you have a bunch of Easter Eggers in there, and they all look so healthy.

Woods riding, too? What do you ride? My wife has a Gator RSX850, but I'm KTM 300XC all the way

We have a pair of Honda CRF250L, ride 'em on the highway right out into the woods. We prefer the cycle only trails through the forest and fire roads and old county and local roads over the ATV/ORV torn up ORV routes. They are very versatile, we were riding through everything from loose sand to gravel roads to footpaths on our property to crossing through 12" deep water in peat bogs. I did get stuck in one bog, and we both dumped them a couple of times on the deep loose sand...anything over 6" deep of dry sugar sand is a pain on a bike.

Our current mission is to hunt out old ghost towns that can't be reached with full sized vehicles. We didn't make it to our goal yesterday as we came across a river that washed out the former road and was too deep to cross, but we'll go back later in the season and try again.

Ya!!! Congrats!!! They look great!

LOL. Me? Involved? Are you trying to say I'm not a hands off hatcher?? Yes, I am curious and excited to see the daily progression myself (if any of them progress.) Once I start getting developement I plan to pick ONE of my candling eggs (maybe I'll throw up periodic pics of the green too, you never see candling pics with the green eggs...lol,) and if I am getting good pics (which I think I might. I bought a cool new little flashlight and this thing gives off great light, so far I can even see through my greens. My preincubation candeling pics turned out pretty good.) I will post a candling pic each day to show the progress.. The bator stayed in the 99's all night. When I got up this morning it was 98.7 and 98.9 so I covered the vent holes to bring it up until the morning sun warms the room. It's at 99.3 and 99.4 right now. So I am fairly happy with temps so far. 2 1/2 hours and I can officially say day 1...lol This is going to be a long three weeks....lol

I got one hatch this morning and several pips on backyard chicks that I wasn't expecting until tomorrow. First one was 15 minutes pip/zip/pop. That is one baby in a hurry. And that was after moving the eggs while in lockdown from one incubator to another, and not giving any attention to which way the dip in the air cell is and just rolling them on in.

Wow, it really wanted OUT! lol
