Looks good!
Yeah, it's ok I'm still happy about the hatch rate. I've learned that I need another incubator

But seriously, I do want a Brinsea. But I do feel like the old styrofoam taught me so much too, things I don't think I wouldn't of learned if I hadn't tried it out a few times in this incubator first.

I feel the same way. I want the better incubator, but glad that I tried and learned the things I learned in my knock-off plastic!

Ewwwww - but you're right, looks like cooked yolk.

If you get a chance, post pics as you install and let me know how you like it. I was about to order the pullet-shut door and saw the Brinsea. Trying to do research, but on their website it doesn't really show much about installation options or pictures of it in use. Why did you pick it over others?

Always great to "see" you here!

X2!!

I saw all bad reviews on the pullet-shut. Saw a lot of good reviews on ChickenGuard, so that's what I was going to buy. Then checked Wayfair (I buy a lot of other stuff from them and they are great) and they had the Brinsea, and it says "powered by ChickenGuard", so I figured if it was good enough for Brinsea to put their name on, and not make one of their own, it was good enough for me! haha
My main reasons were battery powered, has a light that can be seen from a distance to show if the door is shut or not, it looked well-built -- from what I could tell online -- and it got mostly all raving reviews. It also was designed specifically around the behavior of chickens! It takes into account the changing time of daylight/dusk without having to adjust the timer. And it has a "dim" feature if you place it in a lower lighted area, you can turn up the sensitivity. I figured most of the ones out there would basically work, but I liked the extra features with this one. When DH opened the little box, its just a small reel inside. I'm not even sure what the tow line is made of, I didn't look at it very closely. But we figured if fishing line is strong enough to reel in big fish, surely this can lift a little aluminum door! lol

I think we will install it this weekend, so I'll take notes and pics and let you know how it goes!

Whew! Woke to incubator at 108 according to main thermometer, other two both read lower, all the eggs are still alive though but that was scary
OMG... hope they are ok, and glad you caught it!

Hard work is good, and money is good too. Just remember to take time to relax when you can!

That is so cool. I'll be doing that tonight (if it stops raining).... I already have a flap cut into the wire between my pens, but making the hole just big enough for the little guys is perfect! Wish I had thought of it. Thanks for sharing (and thanks to the other person for allowing you to share!)

That's really cool, love the idea of it!

It looks almost like it has abnormal cell growth, like the yolk sac was seeded with tumors. Unfortunately my knowledge of human pathophysiology is much greater than chicken path, so I'll defer to those with more experience.
Can yolk have tumors?? It definitely looks abnormal to me.

I have seen this when temps were too high for too long, but not to a quite fatal level, and the yolk "cooked". The chick/poult cannot absorb this.

That was my 108F day where I named the LG Easy Bake.
You would think though that if the incubator got high enough for a long enough time to "cook" it to a point like that nothing else would live. The insides of the yolk were fluid, but not the bright yellow of a healthy yolk, the dull brownish yellow like when bacteria gets in the egg.

I eggtopsies my last three. Look shrink wrapped to me, and one looked shrink wrapped but had a lot of fluid inside its sac. Poor babies

If my humidity was too low during incubation, I would think a lot more would be shrink wrapped. Maybe they just quit? I don't know, they never internally pipped either.
You're humidity could have been perfect for the majority of the eggs and it's possible a couple were more porous and lost a greater amount of moisture. We can't provide the perfect incubation for every egg (usually) because every egg is essentiallly as different as we are. A membrane shouldn't dry out and shrink wrap if there's lots of fluid in there. The fluid itself should keep the membrane moist enough to keep that from happening.

Did we just get blown off?
