She said/He said Who's right? Who's wrong? No one!

Whew! Busy 4th of July! Been working on coops and feeders and such all day. Made some shelters to hang feeders in with chutes to fill them from outside the runs. Also moved one of our security cameras toward the coops so I can keep a remote eye on them while I'm gone for a few days. And I got the littles moved out to the baby coop! They are terrified! Lol

Time to kick back with a cold one (or ten) and decide whether to go watch fireworks or not.

An interesting observation from my styro bator. When the humidity was lower, say 25-35%, the thermometer in the top of the bator was reading off by 1.5F or so. Since I raised the humidity, the temperature has gone down, but the difference between actual and the bator has also gone away. So right now, with the bator at 60% humidity, the bator thermo matches the digital spot check thermo I got from Brinsea.

That's the great thing about SC. If I want to watch fireworks, I can just sit on the porch. Working on my one or ten right now :gig

You obviously have a faulty styrobator if the temps are reading correctly

Moved my 7 week old hens, from my very first hatch, into the main coop today. They got picked on a little but I was also feeding the main flock so hopefully that get the big birds side-tracked. I'm checking on them every hour for a bit...I'm moving the 3 musketeers into the young flock run tomorrow, so I can put any early hatches into the brooder. The 3 musketeers have feathered out nicely.

Aww they are so cute!

If anyone disagrees with my killing of the snake, feel free to post. It's a great topic for this thread. There are very good reasons not to kill a black snake. They kill rodents, and they kill poisonous snakes. I killed this snake because it has attacked here before and will keep coming back. FWIW, I now know that a 6 ft black snake can squeeze through bird netting
All bets are off when the critter is messing with my poultry. I love my snakes. Unfortunately, the chickens have eaten all of them. But, I'd love to see a nest of garters curled up in my flower bed, like I used to. There were days when they'd be laying in a pile, just outside my front door. They'd also (the little ones) crawl up inside my vinyl siding, and be peeking out through the corners, looking at me. (luckily, I don't have those big moster snakes, or poison snakes). But, any critter that messes with my birds gets dispatched, not relocated.

Quick question: any reasons to NOT keep wild bird feeders/bird baths near chicken cool & run?
Agreed, not a good idea b/c of disease. Humming bird feeders... different story IMO.

Sadly, there are those type of men. Just the other day at the yardsale I had a guy looking around and asked him if he was looking for anything in particular. He was looking for my "husband's tools". Yeah, buddy.

I of course told him no and most of them were mine.

Luckily I've trained most of the guys at the Home Depot to leave me be. Don't placate me and try to guide me to something. If I want your opinion, I'd ask for it. Then I'd realize you were full of crap anyways and ignore it.

Interesting, KraftyChick. I find that the older I get (and I think I've got you all beat) the better I get treated at those box hardware stores. About 15 years ago, it was impossible for me to get ANY service at a hdw. store. The employees acted like I was invisible. I remember one day when I wanted to buy some paint... needed to get it mixed. I could not get someone to wait on me. So, I sent my teen age dtr to go find an employee. She wasn't gone 2 minutes, before she came back with one panting behind her. Now, I guess they figure that it's a good boy scout thing to help the little old lady in the store. Or perhaps it's related to current economy... But, I use it to my advantage!

I feel the same way, but I wish someone would tell my knees
Knees? I look in the mirror and wonder where those old lady knees came from! Then, there's the rest of the aches and pains that go along with an ageing body!
