She said/He said Who's right? Who's wrong? No one!

Well, NY found it's summer. I'm ready for rain...lol Humidity is only 64%, but it feels so hot out there. I made two veggie ice blocks-well- they are in the freezer becoming ice blocks...lol so the birds can have a treat tomorrow since it's supposed to be about the same or a tad hotter.

We have a biological incubator running out at the farm at the minute. Apparently the kids have been finding the nest untended with the eggs cold occasionally but we will see what happens.

I had a hen at the beginning of summer do that too. It was her first time sitting. All of the eggs that developed hatched! I was shocked!!

This came up on another thread and I thought I would ask here since I greatly respect the opinions around here. Do you routinely "worm" your chickens? Why or why not?

yes you deworm chickens according to our state lab that was why I was losing young pullets last year. when I say young I mean close to laying age. what you use is up to you some people use food grade D.E. I use Wazine and Ivermectin It's best to know what kind of worms your chickens have and treat for those .that requires stool sample and a vet to check it. and of course a vet bill.

you are looking in the wrong place are you losing them on the roost or from the run not a coyote dog or fox or hawk unless the run is open with no top and low. possum coon bobcat house cat. it killed 6 birds it must have left some sign somewhere on the ground if not it came in from the top. what kind of wire do you have a possum can get through a chainlink fence I watched one do it after it killed my chicken on the roost and came back for more 20 gage fixed the problem. point the cam at the run. sounds like possum or coon I would be sitting where I could watch the coop gun ready just at dark .varmint must die keep the ground muddy around the coop. I love the track more than the kill.

This.

It has no top huge trees next to it BIG MISTAKE and chicken wire it's 5 ft tall
I'm a really experienced tracker have not found anything but feathers, heads, wings far away next to the woods

Chickening mistakes are easy to come by. We made a lot of them this first year.

Sounds like a raccoon or cat. ?

I think BYC910 is spot on. Voice of experience.

SC, would smack the crap out of me if I saw how I have to take care of these babies! They imprint on you and it's no joke!! They cry for me and if I leave the lid off (I had to make a lid out of scrap wood and hardware cloth for the brooder because they flew out at 5 days old) they fly over to the couch! Then they like to fly on my sons heads'. And they like to snuggle up in my hair and go to sleep. Every night they cry their heads off until I literally put them to bed. I gave them one of the baby's fleece blankets. I take them and wrap them up tight in the blanket and they go to sleep for the night and don't come out until they hear me making coffee in the morning. I feel bad. They are not like chicken chicks. They need a mother!

Nope, not :smack ing for peachicks. You said early on they were different, and I have no experience. You are, however, reaffirming why I don't want them :gig
