She said/He said Who's right? Who's wrong? No one!

Finally finished reading this thread! Literally, took a week. I'm so happy that both Amy & SC are there to help us newbies. You both may have different techniques but that's what's great for someone that is still learning and trying to get the best hatch possible. I've taken a lot of info from Amy about humidity & assisted hatches. I also love my Brinsea (had to return the styrofoam incubator after 24hrs) and felt most comfortable taking SC's advice on leaving the chicks in the incubator overnight. So I thank you both, you've helped me find my own way that I'm happy with! I'm on day 5 of my second batch. Not far behind you Amy! Love the candling pics. You guys kinda lost me with all the accent & dialect talk. I'm from NY...hope I don't sound like Snookie!!

Love the video Amy!!!
Excellent!! That is exactly why we wanted to start this thread. To help new hatchers find their comfort zone and see that hatching is not black and white. That there is leeway and that doing things differently is not necessarily a bad thing.

Thank you for the tips! Good point with the sponges, it would be much easier I reduce humidity by removing them. I am due middle of August, but they won't let me go later than the first week of August if I make it that far (twins usually come a month to two weeks early)

I'm going to set my eggs in a little while. Ive been running the bator for a few hours, I'm running dry and I have two thermometer and hygrometers, humidity is right below 20% running dry, so maybe I'll throw in a small container with a little sponge to get it up a bit. I didn't think I'd be able to run completely dry because it has been record setting dry here the past few weeks. Maybe by miracle we'll get some rain!
It's raining here. Luckily I have a porch to BBQ on...lol Can't wait to see how both incubations go.

I have to add some water to mine as well. Its been running around 22-24% the past few days.I don't like it below 25%. I will be candling and weighing tomorrow night. I am so excited! I can't wait to double check and pull the quitters.

I'm setting some this evening too, if all goes according to plan. So we will suffer the 21 days together! Lol

And I sympathize with an August due date. My only son was born August 15! Good lord, 1991 was a hot summer!! Lol

Glad you joined us in here. You are going to have to carry the Brinsea torch for us in June. Chick sales have slowed down, so I've got 50 to grow out to no-heat selling size. I think I'm going to slow down for the first time since Christmas. My BCM pullets should start laying any day now, and the cockerel is starting to crow, so hopefully I can compare my technique with Amy's pullet experiment by the end of the month. This is my first batch of BCM, so I need to get some feet on the ground so I can grow them out over the winter and start working on them. This will be the first flock I have ever culled. One of my "pullets" started crowing, so I named him Smokey

May be a new experience on the scflock farm

Haha. Suffer we shall, but I hope this hatch goes better than my last. I'm setting 16 eggs, 6 of which are Ameraucanas, aren't those harder to candle? I'm not going to candle for 7 days, I will force myself not too! I swear I have the will-power, I am going to mark the air cells this time too.

And yes I'm going to have a long summer, LOL! You're brave too, going through it in the heat, so not fun, I had my youngest daughter in September, and I would sit in front of the a/c vents.

I had that problem last year with EE's I brought 28 from the local farmers Co op 8 of them turned out to be roosters I told them that's the first time I ever heard a pullet crow & they said A b---------- woman and a crowing hen comes to no good end. they also said well you can sell them. also got 30 SLW's had 2 in it they got me good the SLWs are junk to boot .5 more to go before they are gone . our kids went to school together I can't believe they did that to me. I learn fast and they knew I was hot. I'll never buy another bird from them. while my EEs aren't show birds at least they lay a nice blue egg that's a good size.my customers love those. I need to know to create a link from my member page to the DIY page anyone know how to do that. also just a picture or

2 light hatch this week only 7 chicks 6 EEs 1 BCM better than none

Yes, your green/blue eggs can be harder to candle. I have 4 in there now from my ee/nn and I can just barely make out the veining and it's only day 8.

I timed it right. I concieved my son in June, so by the time I started to really show it was starting to cool down and by the time I felt like a blimp it was winter....lol
