She said/He said Who's right? Who's wrong? No one!

Yes, it is an interesting country we live in, and getting more so all the time. I'm guessing that the general BYC population is well represented by folks who are well prepared to take care of themselves in many ways.

I don't have a beware of dog sign but do have a 90 lb brindle Pitt that lives inside, but the dog ain't what you have to worry about its the loud boom after the almost silent metallic click that will get ya. Also heard years ago you could be held liable for injuries relating to a dog attack because you are admitting your dog is a danger just by putting the sign up. Got to love a liberal country, your dog attacks a criminal and you get your back side in a bind in our wonderful court system, and you can win over 2 million by spilling hot coffee on yourself!

Oh great! It was here when we bought the house last summer so we left it. I never thought about it, there's a private property sign that was already there too. We have a German Shepherd, but she wouldn't hurt anyone, she just makes noise and looks scary.

I would assume you are right. I know round here it's that way ;)

BYC ate my post so let's try again. I had the hubby take pictures of what I suspect is my roo. I have them side by side for comparison. I feel like his comb looks bigger than all others, I wish hubby got pictures of his legs, they are much thicker. He is overall bigger than the other chicks but it's hard to see since I'm holding them. What do you guys think?

I don't and have never weighed. Is it significantly higher than the 14%. Are we talking individual eggs or the average of all the eggs?
It's the average. I'm supposed to be 4.3% for day 7 but I'm at 5.8%. You know, I really didnt even want to do the weighing. But I thought maybe it'd be fun. No...it's not. I hate It already! :(

Ten days down. Half way there. I see lots of moving around. Day 10 candles:
Nice pics, amazing how quickly they grow. My husband just asked if we could candle tonight. Haha, I said no, have to wait for a full seven days! I secretly want to

And this is taking some serious will power.
Question: today is day 7. I think my air cells look good. But according to weight, I've lost to much. What should I go by??
Sorry I'm not familiar. I'm going to go off the air cells, I have no expirience but for me personally I feel like each egg is probably different and may not conform to the standard amount of weight each is supposed to lose. I don't know if my logic makes sense or holds any merit; but for me personally I would go off how the egg is actually looking/developing.

Wow 15 acres! That's nice, I wish I had that many acres. I only have a bit over two acres, but I need to finish my coup this weekend. My orpingtons have a few weeks left in the brooder maybe. Hubby told me I can't shoot the .22 in the yard, but I just remembered I have a beautiful Ten Point crossbow, that I love to shoot. That should take out a raccoon, fisher cat, coyote etc... Took out a pretty big doe this winter so, also thinking of setting up the night vision trail cam, just to see what's around. I've had my hav-a-heart trap set for a stupid ferrel cat that's around. I am not a cat
person, I won't hurt one of I don't have to, but if anything messes with my chickens it's done for. Sounds like you have a nice set up over there, I'm going to bury wire too.
I'm only going to have purebreds, and I'll let them free range. I didn't even think of it until you said that. I think I'm naive to the fact that I'll lose some chickens at some point. I hope not though.
I'm a newbie too! Good luck, I'm sure your hatch will turn out great! You already have two EE's

Did you take any pictures?
Hope it stays away!
LOL. You're not alone I'm a northerner too.

Still winging it. Another EE just hatched. Now there are three. I did take it out and put it in the brooder with the others. I could not leave it in the incubator with the turners still loaded with eggs. So yes I'm "not leaving them alone" but I still have not upped the humidity. Still at 45% MOL. Normal hatch, no shrink wrapping. We'll see what tomorrow brings. No pictures yet.

I thought I would try the weighing as well with this hatch right now. I am over on three eggs only for total weight loss but I am on day 14. So I moved them around in the incubator away fFrom the heater to help minimize the loss of water. So I will weigh again Sunday night and make sure the air cells look good and the weight is within normal limits. Although I have some with really large air cells and are below their 13% weight loss limit. So I really don't know. But I do like it....gives me more of a challenge and working my brain with math. Lol!
