She said/He said Who's right? Who's wrong? No one!

Ok, here are some updated pics on the Ameraucanas. I am in love with these birds. The colors are beautiful, and I can't wait to see them all feather out. I got 17 total, and it's looking like about 50/50 cockerels to pullets, so if I wind up with 8 or 9 girls I will be in good shape. Three of them are 8 weeks old, so pretty much feathered out already. Even the solid blacks are beautiful. The ones I can't wait to see feather are the 2 splash. I think there's one girl and one boy, and they are very pretty

Beautiful blue roo

Those are nice looking Ameraucanas! Definitely no hatchery stock there.

I can't wait to see what my barred and feather footed EEs lay. They are still 12-14 weeks out before there is any chance.

What a day! Drank to much coffee today and now I'm so tired but the caffeine is still in my system! My hatch is over! 3 peachicks hatched and are in the brooder! They are very different then chicken chicks! Much less independent and less hardy. I do have a question. The one I assisted out is having a hard time getting his legs/feet under him. None of them can really walk yet. They take longer to be mobile then chickens. I examined him and there doesn't seem to be a physical problem. No curled feet or splayed legs or hip issues. Do you think because he was assisted and didn't use his leg muscles to break out that maybe they are just not strong enough yet?
In other news, my 8 week olds went out to the coop today! Thank goodness someone on here told me to run a light out there into the coop. They are so scared. Every time I check on them they are roosting right next to the light. I feel so bad for them. Never thought I'd be so attached to Chickens. They are the first babies I ever hatched. I think I'll go check on them one more time. Hehe. And the run is done! It came out better then I dreamed. It's awesome! I'll take pics tomorrow. Last question. If I'm training the chicks to know that the coop is home, should I not let them out in the run for a few days?
I kept both my groups in the coop 2 days and let them out on the third and I have never had a problem with them going in on their own. The older coop they are almost always in and roosting by 8-8:30 every night, the teen agers- they like to stay out a little later and aren't as quick to get in and settled, but usually everything is closed up by 9. I can't wait to see how it changes come fall/winter.

Hey, I knew I saw it somewhere. Hahaha I should have known it was from you!

Yeah, you know where I'm coming from. lolll

Teehee

Never did get that show. But I'm not one for "reality" tv. Reality tv killed the good stuff. Boo, Viacom!! BOOOOOOOO.

Good news all round! Go, Wonder Woman!
Me either, I can't watching something that is supposed to be real and seeing a lot of play acting....lol It's kinda cool knowing that one of our boys from this little whole in the wall town is on it, but, I just don't undderstand how these shows get the draw and popularity that they do.

I am such a meddle but Amy is definitely the candling addict. Lol!
You will get a chance one day. It's good to be close to your family eap when they need you the most.
Nice! I can't believe that your down to 400.....I can't imagine going over 100. Lol!
Amen!!! And proud of it!

I have different results with every batch. Some take straight to the coop, some need to be carried for a few days. I'm still having a hard time with my Ameraucanas (pics to follow). In my bigger coops, I will leave them in it for a couple of days, but they still seem to want to stay outside when it starts getting dark. I've had to carry them at night for as much as a week, but I have also had some that learned after 2 days. The Polish were the worst. They had one of the biggest coops, and still roosted on their playset at night

Alaska is definitely on my bucket list

They look great. I swear the only difference between my ee and that last one is my ee has orange legs.

You willing to give me some of those???? I am looking for some for my last set with my CCL. I will drive to meet you and get them.
This is going to be an experimental batch. The eggs are still small, the girls have only been laying for about 6 weeks, and I'm not sure if Tate is "getting it between the posts".

So I'm working with pullet eggs, a young rooster, and I've never incubated BCM eggs before, so my hopes are high, but expectancy is low. If you can hold off until the spring, I should have some really good BCM and BBS Ameraucana eggs. I think next year I will cross those lines in another pen for olive eggers

Sounds great!!!!! I will have CCLs laying by then too!! Maybe we could swap!!! LoL!!! Well actually they should start laying here at the end of the month. And Tate better get busy esp if you expecting anything to happen. I incubated BCM eggs for my first hatch and I got 2 out of 8 because 3 were shrink wrapped. The only way I could see anything was to candle in a completely dark room with a light source from the bottom and from the top. Then I could see inside the egg like normal, just slightly darker. Fun!! Fun!!! I might just wait to add a BCM hen and an olive egger hen to my laying flock. I will just get them from you!!!!

Thanks Walnut! I love these birds. Next year I will cross a few with my BCM, and I am really hoping those feathered feet carry over. Do you know if there is a better chance of that happening if the BCM is a roo or hen?

And that would be why it's an EE.
I love EEs, have several of them myself, but I really wanted a pure line of Ameraucana

You know good and well you aren't Mini Me. This would be you...

Oh, Tate is very busy, but I'm afraid his aim is a little off

I could probably candle a few, because some will be lighter, but I'm not going to just to mess with Amy

The downside of that is any non-hatchers will have to be eggtopsied
