She said/He said Who's right? Who's wrong? No one!

Silkie, I believe everyone gave accurate info about the cat food. And unless it high quality food, it just has a bunch of by-products in it anyway. I doubt a little here or there would hurt them too much, but it shouldn't be a large part of their diet.
I totally understand and get that. I'm not looking forward to the day I have to put any chick down, for any reason. I'm not quite sure how I'll go about it...but dreading it none the less.
I should be setting Wednesday or Thursday the latest! I'm afraid to go up against you though. I think I'd look way more red then purple!! Plus you'd blow me put of the water. I'm gambling on shipped eggs in August!! I'm a glutton for punishment. :gig
Probably be Wednesday or Thursday for me as well. You might kick my butt. I haven't been turning these eggs like I should. Started collecting last Sunday, and this hatch looks to be stalling around 60%, but I don't know what's happening today

No way we will make 20. 15 looking doubtful.12 are in the brooder, one still in the incubator, and a couple of pips. I may have gotten ahead of myself counting yesterday, it look like one just popped out this morning. I will usually get one or two on day 22, leave it running until tomorrow, then shut everything down
Is 20 what you need to make 90%? Too lazy to do the math...lol

I totally shut down at the end of day 23. No candling. In my experience any chicks that hatch later than that have issues. This is one of the biggest differences between Amy and myself. Go Blue
Come on chickies!!!!! And Red Rules!!!

I'm getting the Octagon 20... I'm getting the Octagon 20!!

Congrats!!!

I think I was delirious with the thought of Queenie having to throw a parade. Thanks for

ing me back to my senses
But I wanna parade!!! Get in there and whisper sweet nothings to those eggs!!!

Of course, if you'd gone over to the red side, you just might have gotten that parade!
RIght!!! lol

Had 2 this morning, and I haven't totally given up on the others, but the timeline of this hatch has been consistent with past hatches. Any vigorous chicks left will hatch today. I will leave it running through tomorrow, and if any hatch they will start looking sticky, possibly have leg or feet issues. I will shut down tomorrow night, no matter what. I'm not saying this to look like mean Mr. Flock. This is how I hatch. I have had to cull almost every chick that hatched after day 23, and I hate killing fluffies. I would rather them die in the shell. The only difference with this batch is I will probably eggtopsy to see what happened. I usually don't even do that, but this is the first batch from my BCM, so I need to see if I did something wrong, or if the chicks weren't ready. The chicks that are out are the fattest, heaviest chicks I have ever seen. Maybe the remaining eggs weren't big enough
I have never had to cull a chick I helped (knock on wood), but to be fair, the ones I have helped have been on time hatches and I think that is the big difference. I totally agree after day 23 the chances of them NOT having some kind of problem is much lower. My 24 day hatcher has leg problems. I love him very much and he is my baby and I am soooooo glad he did hatch regardless, but it does show how delayed development increases problems. I could never pull the plug if I knew there was life, this is where SC and I differ BUT I totally understand his method and his reasoning behind it. I'm am curious to see what the findings are from the eggtopsies.

I have a question for you. On my last 2 hatches I had eggs that were still alive after all the others had hatched. I couldn't pull the plug either because I could see movement in the eggs. But there were no internal pips, and I knew in my gut that they were not going to hatch. I let the incubator run a few more days. Then shut down. There was another member that suggested going into the egg and making an internal pip for them if their beak could be located. But this freaks me out. Very nerve wrecking for me. Don't think I could do it. But they end up dying anyway. Have you ever tried such an assist? Later when I eggtopsy and see fully formed chicks, with yoke absorbed I wonder if I should have tried. What's your thoughts?

How do you know that they are still alive at that point?
Any egg of mine that cheeps for more than 24 hours will get opened. I did 3 this hatch and now 40 hours after incubator shutdown you can't even tell which ones they were.
I have not yet found a cheeper without an internal pip though. I did have 3 that died around day 21 without pipping though.

318 posts behind. I may not be able to catch up on this one. Any chance SC has a roundup for us?

Little update on my lockdown. I looked in the window and the eggs are still there.
