She said/He said Who's right? Who's wrong? No one!

I have the same feelings about quail. Cute little birds, but I once stepped into a covey. They explode, upward, some right in your face...

Noises are weird but unexpected contact is worse. Like getting divebombed by a blue jay when mowing the lawn...
I've had that same exact thing happen, then it's like a primal reaction you have from then on. Good thing they go so well with bacon

I'm sort of regretting this whole peachick experience. I didn't realize what "imprint" really entails. These chicks are getting BIG. I've been putting them in a cage outside of the chicken run for a week. Trying to let them interact with other birds. Well yesterday I put them in the actual run. They stayed at my feet, starring up at me, crying. I told them go make friends & threw a bunch of worms on the ground. No luck. Then they were all riled up when I brought them inside for bed. Pacing the cage in a panic. I opened the door to the cage and sat on the couch to see what they wanted. All 3 of them flew out of the cage. One landed on each shoulder and the last one flew right on top of my head! I felt like Ace Ventura! They definitely have identity issues. And they make me feel a nut case! Feeling guilty about getting rid of them but don't know how much longer I can deal with this insanity.

Been meaning to ask you about those babies.... I'm sorry you are having a rough time with them. They are sooo adorable!

It's a known fact that 2 people on this thread scare me. Friday and Walnut

I can think of a couple more...

Not the Little Giant...or as I referred to it, the Easy Bake. Farm Innovators would be an option, but spring the extra $50 for a Hovabator. Check Craigslist, too.

Hey Walnut, did you see I found a great deal on a Brinsea through CL? Yeah!!

Ruby! Don't heed SC's advice!

Speaking of peacock screams, one of my SS hens screams often. Is that normal? It sounds a good deal like a peacock
You have a hen that screams like a peacock? There's an old cure for that, but it works. Dig a deep hole in the ground in your cellar that she can't get out of, then put her in the hole and turn the lights out. Drop skin lotion to her in a bucket on a rope. Make her put the lotion on. If she doesn't do it, then spray her down with a hose until she does. If after two weeks of this she won't stop screaming, then you make a lamp

I saw something about a three hour drive and a local sister...not sure if I caught the details. Congrats!

My CL GQF is doing great, can't beat $250 for a brooder and an incubator.

Yes, its the 20 Advance, with turner, and humidity pump. Her sister lives close to me and is bringing it back to me next week.
Glad yours is working out too!

All the incubators on CL or FB groups are 2+ hours drive away

Ain't that the truth! I was going to drive 3+ hours, but got lucky! So it never hurts to check if they will meet you, or if they will ship.

Do you shop online? Really, Amazon Prime is hard to beat. If you don't have it, you can do a 30 day trial, then cancel. I actually kept the account for the benefits. One of the benefits is automatic 2 day delivery of any Prime product, which most are. You could find a 1602N, sign up for prime, and have it here by Friday. If you are going to be incubating more than one or two batches of chicks, it really is worth the investment of time and money to start with the best you can

So you would recommend these 3? I was looking at the 1602N Hovabator.

Had a 1602N, worked great! In fact I shipped it to Alaskan and it is still being used... just ask how 'Sally' is doing, lol...

Just about any of the Hovabators. Myself I want the 1588, but that's about $50 more. I'll probably settle for 1583.  I was just giving you some links for the Hovabator choices in that price range that I saw. I've heard good things with just about all their models.

When I decided to buy another incubator, it was between the 1588 and the Brinsea. I just went with the Brinsea because of the reviews. I needed something I could walk away from. I'd like to try a 1588

The Genesis are Hovas best styro... prolly the best styro made... still have 2 I use for hatchers or emergency...

Btw, sc... I haven't finished reading the whole thread so you can have :smack back...

I'm defensive on the Alice quote.
