She said/He said Who's right? Who's wrong? No one!

SC's are already out and signed up for preschool.
Speaking of that, these chicks are like week olds of the cuckoo marans. Just huge, fat, friendly little chicks. They're already bungee jumping off the heater, and are so calm. They look right at you when you hold them, don't fret at all, and don't even kick their legs when you put them back in. I love these little chicks. The biggest one looks like a fluffy little King Kong walking around

Poor friend! Dont let them get any worse! My BR turkeys are like 4 1/2 months and when i tell u they suffer seperation anxiety?! These types of poultry are social to an amazing degree!

I know im MAD and thats okay but like you would a puppy, i have been socializing the pair i intend to keep for breeding. Seperation training is going to need to b a part of that and thanks cuz i realize it now!

They cried outside my backdoor yesterday afternoon for 20 minutes because one had gone over the lil fence and Desired rescuing... I didnt even have them until they were 6-8 wks old, so its not even as bad as yours would be!

Mine go so far as to tattle on flock members who hop the fence. The BBB hen, who can't hop anything, hollers when one of the heritage youngsters hops up on the coop roof from the lawn pen. She's not happy until I chase them down. They do it just to tease her.

@lazy gardener sorry about your hen... I feel your pain... lost a few to predators, but worse thing was our neighbors dogs... they ripped through the fence into our grow out pen and wiped out 47 within 2 days... I had to end suffering on many... that's always rough... :hugs

I know you are our threads resident turkey expert, i appreciate your insight where ever i find it! I absolutly Love those things, and the challenge of LARGE fowl is something ive only just begun to test with this midsized breed and small flock.

I am terrified of a mass kill like that. The most I ever lost at one time was 2. I've tried to make it as predator proof as possible, but if the coyotes ever find me...
That would be devastating

Dogs and foxes have been my worst enemy since getting chickens. I lost 4 silkies to our dog, and numerous chickens to foxes. :he

I've lost to different kinds of predators, but each one only once, except for possums. Every time a different one got in, I learned a different weakness that needed to be addressed. Built roofs for the hawks, anchored the fences underground for foxes, patched every tiny little hole for possums, etc...
My second night with the silkies, they were sleeping on the ground beside the fence and a coon reached in and pulled out what parts it could. I couldn't make them quit sleeping outside, so I built a 3ft tall secondary fence inside the pen to keep them 18 inches away from the perimeter. I'm still vulnerable to anything that can climb, though...
