She said/He said Who's right? Who's wrong? No one!

Nice. What did he get? Happy anniversary!

Thank you! He's a wuss when it comes to needles, so he wouldn't get one with me. I told him it didn't hurt at all!!

He probably got her name. The guy gets her name, and the girl gets something cute. I've seen it happen...
I have Mrs. Flock on my shoulder, she has a cute little butterfly

Nope, I'd never let him get my name on him! He has his Marine emblem on his shoulder.

I didn't catch up reading yet but I had to tell everyone, the manager at the post office called! He has my eggs!

I'm going to pick them up now. I don't have much hope after they've been in transit for 5 days!! But we'll see.

You tout the Brinsea for being reliable, not smart, and those little puff balls sure are reliable hatchers....just saying....

Good point
Just think, if half of those are pullets, and they can sit on 10 eggs each, you could be hatching out 200 eggs every 21 days - on top of what you have in your Brinsea!

And that's just the first month. By August I will have to shovel out
th

Both my chicks hatched! I don't know what shape they are in. I don't see yolk. They are chirping.
That's awesome. I see later on that there may be issues. Good luck

For real? This past April?? Wow, I dont think they are chickens, they are rabbits!
Yep, this past April. Fabio walks with a limp now

@scflock have you performed your eggtopsies yet??
I did. Here's the rundown:

7 remaining eggs

1 late quitter, looks like around day 14
5 fully formed DIS
1 not DIS. Pipped, partial zip, and shrink wrap. It either pipped on the bottom, or was rolled over before the chicks were taken out. Severely shrink wrapped. Was not assisted.

Also, the runt was dead when I got home, and another small one was on its back barely breathing. Rough night last night, so now I am left with 10, but the 10 remaining look to be very healthy. With the smaller chicks dying, and the fully formed DIS, I am definitely running 30% on the set tonight. My goal was at least 30 for the winter, so it's looking like back to back sets again. I hate having the losses, but at least I have more chicks now than I started with last year.
These chicks crave attention. When I put my hand in the brooder, they jump up on the heater and step onto my hand. I'm very happy to have the chicks I have, and this will be chalked up as part of the learning experience on BCM

Ross! *gasps* I think somebody needs some prayers

Just finished my Day 5 candling. Out of the 24 eggs that were set we had to remove 6 - 2 quitters and 4 non-fertile. And out of the remaining 18, 3 are iffy - Pretty bummed about that ratio.

I have 8 High Noon-Leiper eggs and 10 Buff Orpingtons in all. Let's see what happens.

You can determine a quitter at day 5? Just me, but I think I would have waited until day 10 if it was questionable
this is one of the two new chicks. My last one like this in the past died. Anything I can do for it or is it a cull?

You got a lot of helpful advice, so I hate to be a downer, but you can probably guess what I would do
Because you said a word that pierced her angelic ears, even though you broke it up so the filter wouldn't catch it...

That is great! Hopefully the travel wasn't too hard on them. So maybe they weren't sent back to FL again?

Just erase the N, and it will be subliminal

While the numbers are not great, the health of the survivors does sound great. I'll go for quality over quantity any day, though I do want as many to hatch as possible to get the quantity needed to select the quality.

The behavior sounds very much like turkey poults. They are the friendliest, most curious little things. I definitely want some of your eggs come spring.

My weak poult died overnight, that leaves me with two project poults that are in good shape. It's going to be hard raising just two...they may end up being imprinted no matter what I do as I don't have anyone I can mix them with in the coop until they are at least 8 weeks old.

Sounds like you are jealous of Fabio?

Sorry to hear about the ones that didn't make it, but happy for you that you have some good ones. The next set will be better!
And if you do a set after that, maybe we can have our dual with that one!

That's exactly how I look at it. I want as many feet on the ground as I can get to select from, but health if the first priority

Lord, no. Look at all those cackling hens and screaming kids he has to deal with. He doesn't even get to watch football any more

There will most likely be another set around August 30-Sept 3. That's a long time to wait to dual
