Really? You don't have the school year planned out?? Of course I homeschool in one of the most restrictive states to homeschool, so I have no choice as we have to have all the paperwork in and okayed before we start the school year....

NC is super easy. We do have to test every year tho. GA was only every three years. My mom has things planned out. We usually start beginning of September.

I really thought you would light me up over that one

Why? I totally agree. I can most definitely see things from both sides of the plate. If I was kidless and watching my money go out to an educational system that isn't even working these days, I'd be miffed too. I believe we all have a responsiblity to our children's education, but the working person is being taxed to the bone while congress enjoys not only an obnoxious wage but lifetime comfort that they don't even deserve. I worked most of my adult life up until my son came along and I made good money. I stopped looking at my gross income on my pay stubs cause it was so discouraging.

We technically don't have to test until 4th, but 4th-8th you can do testing every other year and a written assesment on the opposite, so if you do the written assesment for 4th, you technically do not have to test until 5th. Then you can do 5/7 and 9-12 is mandatory. If we ever move out of this rotten state, I am looking for a state with next to no homeschool restrictions/requirements.

Sorry about all the egg problems.
Yes, that's exactly what I am talking about with school supplies. In kindergarten my son has a meltdown (he has shown various aspergers/autism tendancies in the past) because his favorite color was red and they were allowed to do their math homework in marker and he wanted to do red, but there was no red available because another little girl at his table had the red marker. He ended up in TO not doing his work because of it. While I acknowledged my son needed to learn you don't always get what you want, the fact that I bought him a whole package of markers and he should have them available to him, but instead has been pushed into a meltdown and not doing his work over something so silly really got me. This community sharing crap is BS. I wouldn't have minded sending in a few extra things but when the kids dont have access to what we do send in, it's ridiculous. Yes, I'm done SC.....lol

Yes, I agree. They probably ask for so many items because half the parents, for one reason or another, don't supply everything asked for, which leads to the sharing. I just think the items are getting carried away. What happened to one binder, one pack of pencils, and a pack of glue sticks, like when I was a kid?? And your story reminded me of a good one. My much younger brother has dyslexia/adhd and his iep states that he gets directions repeated more then once. In 2nd grade his teacher would not allow him to have a snack at snack time and sent home a note that said he can have snack when he learns to follow directions the FIRST time they are given. I thought my mom was going to get arrested for what she wanted to do to that teacher! She lawyered up instead! (That was one of many, many issues and school district ended up paying for a special school).

I've heard that FL is super easy on homeschoolers. Massachusetts is the Complete opposite. In NC you don't even have to turn in the test every year. You just do it

I do see both sides, but like you I hate seeing how much money is taken for "education", then seeing the results of the SC school system

Ruby, one thing I love about homeschooling is you can teach your children the way they need to learn. Everybody learns differently. Some children learn better if they're doodling while listening, or running around or building Legos. Some can learn by just sitting with their hands in their laps while listening. Homeschooling allows the teacher/parent to teach the child to his/her advantage. People often think and label a child who can't sit still ADHD.

the money goes to high pay checks for the top people at the board of education. they build a multi million dollar office building while my kids were in portable class rooms, teachers make nothing . And my daughter in law wants to be one. my son married a bunch of student loans. and like his dad will pay every cent he owes. opps don't get started on the whole government was up to me they would all be looking for jobs. fired with a do not rehire stamp.
