She said/He said Who's right? Who's wrong? No one!

We have possums, skunks, coons, grey foxes, coyotes and people near by have seen some brown bears and I think a cougar was spotted too but they are very few and far between if they are here. Then there's hawks, crows and buzzards. Chickens live a terrifying life!! Poor little guys. That little silkie that got taken was the sweetest little guy, and my only black one. The rest are white and a couple are yellow splash.

Ye
Are you in a really dark room?  (might be a silly question).
Yeah, I went in the bathroom, no windows, door closed,it was pitch black. I really do have terrible eyes but I thought for sure I could see an air cell but I can't. It's kind of bothering me, I really want to make sure they're all ok but I just can't make anything out. These eggs aren't real smooth like most eggs either so there's tiny variations in thickness and then theres the speckles so I see all kinds of light and dark spots but no air cell. I've looked at pics online and have seen what to look for but I don't see anything like what I've seen online. I would post a pic so you guys could see if you can see anything but on the mobile app it's impossible to do that, lol.

I think the candling problem is that the air cell is so small I just can't see it cause my hand is covering it. I tried putting cardboard between the light and the egg but it's also covering a small portion of the egg.

Gachooks, I'm using a small LED flashlight and put a piece of cardboard in between the light and the egg with a 1/4 inch hole cut in it. I want to get a good candler, I might order 1 when I order my new thermometer/hygrometer.

Good news!! I got a different piece of cardboard poked an 1/8 inch hole in it, left the eggs in the carton and all the air cells were visible and attached to the shell!! No saddle shaped cells, these eggs were apparently packed very, very well and the post office much have taken good care of the package. None were broken or even cracked, thank the Lord!! I might end up with a good hatch :fl

You're also trying to candle welsummer eggs, which are really difficult to candle. You might need a brighter light. You can modify a brooder lamp or any desktop lamp to make a candler. I've also heard the extra bright flashlight app is one of the best candlers you can find from a few people. I think you are supposed to let shipped eggs rest for a bit after they arrive. There's some debate on this. I wish someone who's had experience was on to help you.

Great! Hope you have a great hatch.

For a second I thought you were semi-cursing(frick and frack). They're adorable! I've been wondering about medical thermometers, but the short time span is what stops me from using them. Analog meat thermometers it is! I can leave several in the ventilation holes and always have an accurate reading, which is good-- cause I am always staring. Don't you just hate those kinds of relationships? Seems like the other party is always sucking you dry. We grow mint and if you take a bunch, crush it up, cover it in olive oil and soak it for a day or two, then press it out through a cheese cloth or gold coffee filter, it makes a great mosquito repellent without all that nasty DEET stuff. It smells great, too, and if it gets in your mouth, your tongue doesn't go numb. :P You can repeat the soaking process with fresh leaves for a few days if you want. Store it in whatever, but I keep it in the fridge so the volatile oils remain in the olive oil. That IS a positive note when dealing with an LG! :D Good luck on your hatch. Hear, hear! x2!
That would be awesome, I'll have to look for some mint! Thanks!

Yeah!! Good job. I took a piece of thin craft foam and cut a small hole in it and attached to my flashlight. My bantam eggs are really small. But it works just as well, if not better, than ones you can buy, unless you go with a really expensive one. So save your money! Spend it on a better flashlight, if you want... Just my opinion. I'm a candling addict!

Yep. WV is one of the experts!

You know, if you don't have any or know anyone who does, it would probably be easier to buy some peppermint oil or extract and use that.
