Certainly SHOULD be fertile; very willing rooster. Same rooster on the last clutch set under a hen, which ultimately never hatched, but did contain some unborn chicks.

I movethem to the brooder once they start moving around and becoming active. If the are active in 30 after they hatch, then I'll pull them. If they lay there for an hour or two before becoming active then they stay in a couple hours.

Are you candling down into the eggs from the top? It sounds like you are candling from the bottom.

Tried from both ends. Couldn't see anything at all with two different flashlights, so I set up a lightbulb under a coffee can with a hole cut in the end.

and I have used sharpie since the get go, without any issues

If you are candling from the bottom the "light area" that you see that is 1/2 the egg is not the air cell but the albumen in the egg. If you candle down into the egg from the top, the light (if it's bright enough) will illuminate the air cell and put any growth/development into perspective as well.

This is what I was thinking too. I've been on many a thread where this happened. Try to snap a pic. And just concentrate on the fat end of the egg, keep looking...that's where you'll find the air cell and right under the aircell you will see all the veins, @kwhites634

Pictures ain't happening. Don't own a 'smart' phone, and my digital camera has an automatic flash that I can't get to turn off...washes out the delineation between light & dark areas within the eggs if held close enough to show any detail.

Guess I'll just wait it out til they start to smell or develop further; not many other options.

The breeder that I'm getting the call eggs from, has a whole section on her website about using sharpies. It says she has done similar tests, like the one posted above and same hatch rate. She's a little sassy too because she says if you don't want sharpie on your eggs then don't buy her eggs.

U did not get a pic keeping up w this thread is SO hard! I had a friend over lol! I did however weigh and trace them. I can say that even with the really high A.humidity i think im on par or just below it and im not going to add rice like i was thinking. The eggs tell me theyre happy
