She said/He said Who's right? Who's wrong? No one!

I haven't priced grocery store eggs, but my feed store buys and sells eggs for $4/dozen ($2/dozen for bantam eggs) and they sell well.
Hi all, I have a sign on the road, saying eggs for sale, I charge £2.50 a dozen, came home from the super market one day and found 2 men fighting about who should have the eggs I left out, May have to put up my price. You can get shop bought eggs here for £0.70, but no taste to them, C G

I did find a plucker for cheap and bought it over the summer after we did 16 birds. Plucking is not for the faint of heart. Or faint of patience.

I'm not on a busy street, but I forgot about my 350 "close friends" on FB. Good thinking!
My issue is having carpal surgery a month ago LOL I dont think I could handle that much pluckin, the guttin and stuff is no issue here, I hunt and everytime we process a roo the kids fight over who is doing what, my daughter is physco chicken processor, I cant get my hands in one!
This year was my first year hatching and selling chicks. All chick and egg money goes in a bowl, and all supplies are bought from the bowl. From Jan-now I have spent $160 out of pocket, and that includes paying myself back for the Brinsea 20 Advance. I'm not making money, but very close to breaking even. I've never had a hobby that I love come so close to breaking even, so I'm happy with that.
Now for that Octagon 40

I like the bowl idea, I try keeping it in paypal but hubs is always buying parts for something off of ebay!!!

What kind of plucker did you get? My winter project is to build a tub style plucker. For my older birds, I'm just going to skin them and then we are going to can them. That's the current plan for the old hens at least. Growing up, my grandma always made some amazing soups with the old stew hens. But plucking them is brutal.

Yeah, I sold quite a few through FB, and you could always try to see if there are any local farmers market pages on facebook as well.
I agree, just skinning the old ones or single processing. its just easier and less mess n fuss

It was a Whizbang plucker that someone else made and it works great. Look up whizbang plucker on youtube if you have not seen one.

They do the boiling and they do help a bit. They are coming around.
OMG simple to just google NOT there are a zillion whizang videos!!! I have an old honda push mower motor, wonder if that would work... If u have time can you pinpoint a good video or two LOL

That's what I'm going to make, I've got the motors and some pulleys scrounged from some old farm equipment. I'm going to go to a local army surplus/have everything you could imagine if you can find it kind of store and make the frame out of angle iron. Just need to buy the fingers and make sure I can get it all put together.
hmmm army surplus? not sure I ever heard of one of those?

True story: The first four years of my son's life he was rarely sick with more than a cold/allergy type crap. I put him in "preschool" (headstart) at 4 1/2 and every time you turned around the kid was sick. Same thing in kindergarten. At one point I had taken him to the dr's-second time he had strep I think- she walked in looked at my son and said "Your mommy is going to pull you out of school isn't she?" She knew I didn't like public school and had contemplated homeschooling. I pulled him out of school to homeschool for the last quarter of kindergarten, we just started 2nd grade. Hasn't been sick. I picked up the flu and was dying January 1st and gave it to the rest of the house. Other than that, back to my reasonably sick free kid. Amazing!
I think I have a hard time devoting so much day time to schooling my own kids, HOW TERRIBLE OF A STATEMENT IS THAT!!! muwahahhaaaa selfish mother!! I would want to run around and play with them all day instead!

19 out of 19 fertile. Capt. Knuckles is really getting after it. 100% fertile and he's covering 19 pullets! 2 quitters. 17 good ones left on day 7.
awesome candle image good luck!

That's definitely a good hen... she plans ahead and already has her retirement plan in place...

Boy, my gal that is buying eggs from me is getting a deal from what I'm seeing on here. I sell a doz. for 2 bucks. 18 for three.

She has been a reg. for a while. When she went on vacation, I did an add to sell them for 2.50 a doz. Wow. A lot of folks wanted them. Last time I went for feed, it was up at the Mill, so, I think I will raise my price on my eggs soon..I told her a couple of weeks ago that it was probably going to happen. She knows.

Hey Sally! Long time no see!

Is this chicken fat? Like the drumstick? Guess what breed, I know you know. I've never ever seen one this big, they are big, but good grief. Can we make them too fat for their own good? I can't tell if he is over weight or not. Animals are lucky that way, if we keep them fed right, they keep their weight right.

I give away eggs at work, so you still make more than I do! But once my lavenders start laying, I'd like to be able to sell them as hatching eggs!

I need to get a pic of my dark brahma's monster feet! He's not nearly that big though!

Ok, guys, maybe too many pics, but anyone with critiques, feel free to have at it. This is my first time with Ams, but I think I'm off to a pretty good start:

Splash hen

Splash cockerel. Here you can see the purple sheen molting to green in the blacks

Blue cockerel with a black beside him. Tight combs

Comb from the side. This is the biggest boy, but his beard is looking a little haggard, and he is the one still showing a lot of purple

Purple sheen

Green sheen

Group shot

Gee, sorry for all the pics

Very pretty!

I moved my turkey poults to the Polyhatch as a brooder. They seem to like it, I have them in a plastic tub with one side of the lid propped open for ventilation. Steady 95, great headroom, and safe! They are quiet and calm in there.

Sorry, I'm just excited... Oz posted it on his thread now so it's official... our birds have eggs in a bator in the Philippines!!!
That is super cool!!

I totally know what you went through! My first son would get sick every single month since he turned 9 months old. Anytime we went to an indoor play gym or any kind of play date, he'd get a serious cold, then the fever would start, then ear infections. He started kindergarten when he was 4 and got swine flu twice the first two months of school. He was so sick, he ended up missing all September. Went back, got reinfected and missed all of October. I kept him home the rest of the year, and he didn't get sick again. Now he's almost 10 and never gets sick. He built his immunity through the roof since he was a baby. There nothing worse then watching you're little one be really sick.

:thumbsup that's great news!! I don't know if I killed my eggs by letting them rest on the counter for 48 hrs or what. But I've only got 6 out of 18, looking good!! :hit

Omg! He's huge!! I only have bantams so he looks like a giant!! Lol. But so beautiful. I would not mess with him!!
Hold on a second and I will bombard you with new Am pics ;) In the meantime, here's a few pics of a completed feeding station I was afraid the enclosures might make them wary, but they actually like them better than out in the open
They look great! Do they touch the ground?

Walnut, I meant to quote you yesterday but time got away from me. Your poults reminded me so much of my baby peas! I saw that pic of the two that hatched in the 20. They are beautiful. After seeing that pic, I went to go visit the peas. I was wondering if they would remember me, I haven't seen them in 2 weeks. They are huge now!! And doing great! They came right up to me and sat on my leg and let me rub them. Guess they remember their mama!! :love
