She said/He said Who's right? Who's wrong? No one!

LOL RIght.... Ad no where near as good I bet! Yup. 11-14 and I still candle every night. There's no logic to me that the eggs are being turned yet candling is going to be the thing that negatively affects them. I do however stop turning my eggs now at the end of day 13 since I found the growth chart that lables day 14 as the approx day that they turn toward the fat end of the egg. That sounds nice.
You can still shine a light on them, right? Is it recommended not to do it because you're technically picking the egg up and turning it while candling?
I just saw this and was laughing before you posted it!

I've been making pickles for years with my grandma's recipe, but this year I started doing fermented pickles (cauliflower, carrots, celery, green beans, garlic, sweet peppers, and of course cucumbers).  I will never go back to vinegar brined cukes!

I've never canned pickles, though my brother in law makes canned sweet pickles.  Have any recipes to share?  My favorites are garlic dill pickles.

that is a loaded question lol. We use wild grape leaves, garlic & dill in our pickles. We LOVE dilly beans. Basic pickle recipe but use green beans instead of cukes. Put garlic, dill & 1 cayenne pepper per jar. Quarts take a few more peppers.

Pickles made with my grandma's recipe are cured on the counter in a vinegar-water-salt brine, then refrigerated when pickled. They stay good for a couple of months, then get soft.

My fermented pickles stay firm, but require refrigeration once fermentation is done to stop the souring process.

I would really like to find a recipe for garlic dill cucumber pickles that are shelf stable and stay crisp and tasty through the winter! I understand the use of the grape leaves for tannin for crisping, but how many are used? Too late for this year, unfortunately...

I'm not sure of the "reasoning" I don't go by the concept so it doesn't play a part in my incubation. I would find it hard to believe that it would be suggested that the light would be their demise, but it wouldn't surprise me considering some of the "myths" that are carried through the incubation philosophies as fact.

One of the girls on my FB tagged me in that...lol Apparently they all think I'm the crazy chicken lady. Not my fault I prefer a yard of chickens to a yard of cats....lol

[/quote Trouble with not believing that link and candle information is from pas-reform an is backed with studies. If you didn't go to link you wouldn't have noticed. So it's not heresay after all. That's why I shared all my educational research on incubation in the hatching 101 article. Way to much heresay and tired of reading arguments so Google scholar has been my teacher MOST times. ;)

HELP! I have not had time to catch up, sorry. Just got home and I am thoroughly disgusted with myself. The light was out in my brooder and I have 3 dead chicks, and 3 more barely alive. The others seem ok so far, just cold.
I put the 3 barely alive ones in the incubator and set it on about 93. I tried giving them some water, which they sorta took.

What else should I do? What harm may this cause with the others? Obviously I replaced the light bulb.

:hit

So sorry!! :hugs

Just get them warm again and don't worry too much about giving them water until they're warm and moving... or try a tiny bit of warm water, it might help them warm up better...

Give some vites to the ok ones and after the others are up and moving give them some too... not much you can do but warm them and see how they are... :(

Thanks. Already have vitamins in the water, so I guess I just hope and pray now... :(

We use a couple good sized leaves and alumn (spelling???) its in with the spices isle. Its white and you put some in each jar to help them stay crunchy.
