HELP! I have not had time to catch up, sorry. Just got home and I am thoroughly disgusted with myself. The light was out in my brooder and I have 3 dead chicks, and 3 more barely alive. The others seem ok so far, just cold.
I put the 3 barely alive ones in the incubator and set it on about 93. I tried giving them some water, which they sorta took.

What else should I do? What harm may this cause with the others? Obviously I replaced the light bulb.

Be sure they don't get too warm, but get them warm and keep them warm. Be sure they are on an insulating surface, like wood chips or dry straw, to help warm them more quickly, or on a dark surface like a dark towel. I'm surprised you lost them in moderate temps, and sorry.

Don't push food or water until they are thoroughly warm. They will probably be very quiet for 24 hours or so. Their metabolisms need to gear back up. They should start peeping again as they warm, that is a good sign.

Oh that is sad. Hoping they will make it. Poor you.

Thanks everybody. 2 of the 3 have died. The other is hanging in there. The only light in the room was a small night light, and it looks like they clamored to that corner and trampled the smallest ones. The Japs. Lost 4 of the 5 of them. That sucks!
I dont know how low the temp got. Maybe 65. Nor how long the light bulb was out. I was gone less than 48 hours. We haven't turned on any heat in the house yet, its just starting to cool down. Was about 55 last night, but I'm sure it didn't get that low inside the house.

Jay and I went to an "auction" this afternoon. They had poultry and small animals. The trouble was when the highest bid was reached most of the sellers decided it wasn't enough so the sales fell through. What I want to know is why sell at an auction if you have a set price in mind. I would think it would be better to advertise on craigslist or something. We left half way through as it was a farce. Most of the birds were bantams. What do people do with bantams? I also thought the folks running it were kind of rough with the animals. Maybe I am just a softy but Jay thought the same. We didn't even handle our birds that we processed in that manner.

I have never been to an auction. They sound mean.

Why keep bantams? I love a silkie bantam or a cochin bantam..I have to choose which ones I want to have around all the time, I choose the silkie bantam. But, I love having the cochin bantam around during the spring and summer..then I have to sell them because I just don't have the room. Here are a few of my babies from past, and present.

That's why I shared all my educational research on incubation in the hatching 101 article. Way to much heresay and tired of reading arguments so Google scholar has been my teacher MOST times.

I actually read that whole article that you posted the link for. And I'm really happy I did. I was on the fence with some questions about humidity and tilting/turning. I'm going to try some new techniques with this batch. So thank you! It was very informative.

Oh no!! I'm so sorry! Maybe put them on a heating pad. Like the others said, just get them warm. That one cold chick that I found on the ground, just needed rest/sleep and heat. He bounced back the next day. I'm praying for you too!

Warming them up is the best thing to do..how are they doing?
