I put them out in the coop brooder and I'm worried the change in flora and fauna was too much for that one. I haven't had anything die in that brooder until now so I'm hoping it just thinned out the weak one.

I will try to get more pics tomorrow evening. I can sure tell the cockerels by now. Looks like I might be 5 and 5 pullet/cock right now.

Yeah, I wasn't sure on the sex on my first straight run batch for about 3 months, but after watching them grow, these have been much more obvious. The small combs and long tail feathers are a giveaway by 7 weeks. I'm looking forward to seeing yours

Humidity is dependent on the air cells. So what you have now sounds good to start. Then when you candle on day 7, check to make sure the air cells are growing properly. Not to big, not to small. Like this:

I am so sick of MUD! only one coop and run is on a bit of an incline, our big Brahma feet are a mess! Thank Goodness they dont stink like the meaties.

If it's still air, generally 101-102 is where you get your best hatches, but that is with the temp taken near the top of the eggs. If it's 101-102 near the bottom, then I agree it's too high. I would definitely adjust though if you think it would help. Trial and error until you find what works. Run 30/35 and check air cells to stay on target and know how to adjust.

Yes, these are the first hatch from 7 weeks ago. I have eight 2 week olds in the brooder, and another batch due to hatch Sunday. Most of this next batch will come from the older Davis hens, so I'm hoping for a good hatch. I love posting the pics of the Ams and having people tell me I did good, but I think the side by side BCM comparisons with sidewings chicks will be very interesting for everyone to see

Lake effect boils down to more snow storms because of the surrounding lakes. I'll spare you the jargon of cold air masses moving along warmer lake water and vapor collection yadda yadda yadda... surfice to say "more snow" lol Higher occurances of white out conditions especially closer to lake regions. No kidding on the red tape.....which politician was it  that wanted to throw a methane emmissions tax on farmers for cow gas? He was probably from NY at one time....lol

Great, more snow! The first storm is always beautiful and fun for the kids but then it goes down hill from there...fast!! I got a Subaru this year!

Sally, seeing your young chicken tenders on the hoof makes me want to run a batch of CXR next year. It would be nice to process meat birds before they get all hormonal. I'm a huge fan of keeping DL in the run, and using FF. Both work well to keep the stink down, especially with CXR. Bee Kissed turns her CXR out to free range, only feeds them twice/day (FF). She gets good growth, they stay very active and hustle up most of their grub. None of the orthopedic or cardiac problems that they are often prone to.

I have always fed them FF as well, until I got really sick, just not to the point to start that back up yet. I know its benefits for sure, but until I can carry feed around I am not bothering for my own health. And DH has picked up so much from my slack off, I feel sorta bad for him..... ok well I dont really but still! ha!

I keep looking to set them out to free range, but we have a resident hawk, they are so small and no roo to protect so I let the bigger brahma out so they dont eat as much and I dont think they would range good together yet.

These BCM are growing really fast. My BCM are way overcolored for their age. I'm expecting sidewing's to be much darker.
This Sunday's batch is also BCM. I'm trying to get 30 or so in the pen to see if I can salvage anything from this flock. If not, I will have to start over next year. None of my customers that come by know any of the faults, and I could easily sell them as BCM, but I wouldn't want to sell these to sell to someone that had a kid that was wanting to show. My birds need to be at least breeder quality, and right now I don't even have that.
My Ams aren't laying yet. I'm hoping they will start around late October

Then I'd leave it at that and just monitor the cells and not worry about figuring out how to reduce the humidity unless the air cells aren't growing good.

I've gotten to the point I can't even stand the first beautiful snowfall....lol I honestly get booed every year up here for wishing for a green Christmas...lol
I think missions is hatching duck, so I would think it'd be a little early to see anything. I don't do ducks but you don't see development as early as in chicks do you?
