She said/He said Who's right? Who's wrong? No one!

You are so nuts and I loves ya!!! :hugs

Seems like some extra energy you've got going now, eh? :D ;)
They'll always go for the freshest or the ones set to the side... I think it's a temptation thing when we have certain ones set aside... :/
:hugs
Hope he's ok!!!
Great score and glad they'll get you more eggs if you don't have a good hatch... :)
x2 :thumbsup
No need to apologize for spending time with your dad!! That is fully understandable... great job with the ducklings and the trade off on Cayugas, just please don't forget quarantine... and hope you have an easy integration...
Nope, I don't mind you bringing that up... I feel it's essential in good business to be honest and open about any flaws and to ensure to the best of my ability to give the customer what they are wanting... I just look at it this way... what and how would I want??? And go from there...
Missed you!!! :hugs

Thank you so much! I totally appreciate your buisness ethic, and if everyone had those ethics we would be alot futhure as human beings!

And thank you for mentioning the quarentine, i have a specific pen used for that proccess, and i want to put it out there how important that period is. I lost one of my all time very favorite pet snakes, (had her for like 8 years) to a mite infestation, that i brought in on a flipn Squirrel! True story, i bawled like a lil girl, and i share that so anyone can understand that its your critters LIvEs that depend on a quarinteen period.

Have you checked the temp against a calibrated thermometer? What's your plan for the shipped eggs?
I really hope you have a great hatch!! Did you set them yet? I know this sounds crazy but this crazy hatcher on FB swears on spraying dirty eggs that needed to be washed with 50/50 water/original listerine mix to keep the germs out. I've never washed eggs but he's got a bunch of people doing it that swear it works. So I don't know!!?!
That's ok!! My dad has heart failure for the last year, so I completely understand and am happy you got to spend time with him! Those ducks were absolutely adorable and they are alive and healthy because you did such am amazing job assisting them! All of what you wrote is great info!! I'm a single mom to 3 boys, one only being 9 months old, so it's hard for me to have the time that I need to really trying to make a profit with these chickens. But I will keep in mind everything you said and as the little one starts getting older, hopefully I can start building some separate pens for the chickens and expand. (I know I can get pallets for wood for free). Also get out in the community and get involved with other local chicken people. But for right now I will sit down and make a log of all of the money I've put out so far. I was just thinking today, that next spring I want to start growing some vegetables early on so I can feed them to the chickens all summer!!!
I am using a sportsman 1550 cabinet bator a friend loaned me. After this hatch my new inc should be here. I'm definitely investing in a Brinsea my hubby said if he is gonna shell out$ for a cabinet Bator its not gonna be this one. It has not done so good. So hopefully by spring or summer I'll have my 1800.00 bator I want. Hatches 300 at a time. In the mean time I just bought me a little 48 egger. So I don't have any other thermometers in this one because I was trying it out.

I use a 1502 digital and have never had any issues with it.

I think its because the boy did not take care of it. He had it 3 months and when he brought it to me it still had unhatched eggs in the racks and box. It smelled awful. Told me he would cut me a deal and to try it...if I liked it he would take 650$ he paid 1000$. I cleaned it and bleached it, but it kills half my hatch, it doesn't hold humidity well. So I'm not happy with results. I shouldn't have to sit up all night making sure it hasn't shrink wrapped my chicks while they are unzipping.

Casey how long have you been using your 1502?

I've had it about a year, started hatching in it around July. I have had 100% hatch out of quails in it and around 90% local chicken eggs. I hatched in styrofoam before I got the cabinet and was lucky if I got 5 chicken eggs out of 48 to hatch. My chicks were always sticky.

I totally agree with you,I would pass on it also. I had a cheapo depo I was using and a Guinea egg exploded in it and I just had to throw it away because it was slowly killing off my hatches. I tried everything to clean it..bleach, vinegar, dairy farm santitizer, the incubator cleaner made by Brinsea. I used it just for small hatches but I'm definitely going to invest in an octagon 20 or 40 for that.

I'm kind of looking at incubators. I can't afford what I really want. Lol. I was thinking about a kit and a mini fridge.

Mine was brand new and the man had only used it once. He went from 3 chickens to 250.. And figured out he couldn't afford to house them.
He had the ad on Craigslist. I would keep checking there.

So are you using the cabinet or a smaller one? With the shipped eggs, how long are you going to let them sit without turning?

What humidity were you running? I heard this theory that sticky chicks are from low humidity, not high humidity. I'm just curious.
