She said/He said Who's right? Who's wrong? No one!

:hugs. I hope some will hatch for you!!! That's always a gamble with shipped eggs unfortunately.
I did t know you were selling her!!! I would have bought her! I want to have a turkey hen so bad....just one maybe two. Lol!!!!
I know shipped eggs are a gamble. Its just so dissapointing to loose that many...2 whole breeds that I want gone. So I guess another batch of leghorns, and lav orps, and amerucauna it will be. Thinking about taking one seller up on his offer and doing the chick thing...mix/20/5 leghorns/ 5 amerucauna/ 5 buttercup/5 comet for 55$ includes shipping. I might have to do hatching eggs again on orps and new bantam breed.

I have 104 quail due hatch oct 15. I'm setting eggs from @Ray_n_Debi tomorrow also.
I love quail! Heard the hatch like popcorn, so good luck! I'd love to see pics of the hatch!
the best incubator in the world has to be checked for proper calibration of thermometers and hygrometers . an egg shipper once told me bad hatches are caused by bad hatchers .I disagree with that statement, for many reasons. I also agree with that statement for one reason a bad hatcher to me is someone with experience and doesn't do what you should do with any incubator. and that is make sure that everything is working . also all monitoring devices are functioning properly . since the atmosphere around the incubator affects the atmosphere inside the incubator .it should be monitored as well. people on this thread have used the cheapest incubator and had good hatches. high or low humidity causes problems . extreme temperature highs and lows kill embryos. check check and recheck everything . good hatches don't just fall in your lap you must work for them .and man its a lot of work sometimes .good luck with your 48 egger .hope the first hatch is a good one .
X2! This is so true! Sometimes I've even gotten lazy and didn't recalibrate the hygro. It's just so true, everything you said!
I won't do any adjusting on the bator I'm borrowing; because I don't want to be resposible if it breaks. I'm new to hatching so I'm taking everything in. I hope the new smaller one will give me good hatches and more experience. The cabinet does ok but won't hold humidity well. It says 67% but my chicks are still shrink wrapping before they unzip all the way. If they had the same problem and they set it up....could it be them even though it's pre-set?? I don't want to pay 650$ for something I'm gonna keep having constant issues with. I've already paid him 150$ but told him to consider it rent/usage because of what it's doing and its not that old, but they set it up...all I have done is clean it when it first got here. Put eggs in, fill water, and use a wet cloth at hatch time to keep humidity up, my bantams have hatched wonderful, but have had to be assisted because of shrink wrapping. Even with higher humidity. Could it be reading the humidity wrong?? I've had 12 eggs shrinkwrap before I caught it and chicks died beak out totally glued in the shell. That's out of home stock. We won't talk about the shipped egg nightmare...that's not the Bator's fault!!! I had 3 of those die due to shrink wrapping, but mostly they just didn't develop...infertile/ quitters/addling/scrambled yolks on arrival, just to name a few.
I have to ask, do you have calibrated thermometers and hygrometers in there? When they are zipping, what happens? They stop half way for how long? If I have a zipper that stops for more then 20-30 mins, I finish the zip by opening up the shell just enough for them to push out.
Lol, yep! Doc gave me one thing, was supposed to do another thing, but did this other thing. I'm not complaining though, I got stuff done, finally! Now it's wearing off and I'm going to bed. mixedUPturk: :hugs Please never apologize for spending time away from anyone to spend time with your family. Especially parents with health issues. :hugs I wish I could send more than hugs your way. Glad you are getting to spend some time with him! Keep it up! My dad isn't doing too well, and hasn't been given too long(COPD etc.). Reality sets in more each day. We never had enough time together, and now life takes us from each other. Sorry, I shouldn't be sharing this here, but it's late, and I have no one irl to lean on cause i want to be strong for them. Da amn, y'all. It doesn't matter how old you are. .. losing a parent makes you feel like a helpless baby. Life SUX! It lets you mature just enough to really, really care about people and then drops them right out of your life. Slowly and painfully. Thankfully my husband doesn't understand, yet and I can't talk to him about it. I don't discuss it with my sisters either, b/c I know what's coming and want them to be happy for as long as possible. Man, I need some heavy drugs. lol Think I'm gonna go scrub floors and work out then an early run. Flock slepp. Who needs it? \ Night beauimux people
I'm in the same boat. Dad has heart failure for a year now. He raised pigeons my whole life and I never really took an interest. Now that I'm doing chickens we have so much to talk about and share! So it's such a shame, he probably won't make it through this winter and I don't even want to process that fact! So I really do understand exactly what you're saying!! :hugs
Well guys, I sold my lone turkey last night. A very nice man and woman, and their daughter came and took her away. They already had several other turkeys, so she is going as a pet, and not dinner! Yeah! Will probably do more dealings with them later on. They loved my lavenders and the new babies too. So it was sad to see Gemma go, but I think the lavenders will be happy to have her gone. She ruled the roost and even the big lavender boys, who are as big as her, wouldn't stand up to her. So I hope they will come into their own now.
That's so sad but so awesome! She was such a beautiful baby! I'm sure she'll be very happy now with more of her kind! And how perfect that you know she'll be a beloved pet. Great news!

I plan to!!! Are we still doing the swap in spring time??

I'm going to guess that some will still be in, and some will be out, and maybe we'll gather some new ones. Might just be safer to wait until early spring to work it all out.

about 45% throughout and 67% last 3 days.

Surprised that you got shrinkwrapped chicks with that. I think most of us would find that high for the first part, and low for the final days, leading more to wet chicks and drowning, not shrinkwrapped. But your local conditions make a big difference too, so its hard to say. I'd lean toward your hygrometer being off!

One thing I've learned after being with the same woman for thirty three years. you girls need a place to share things every day when my wife comes home I'm listen to what she has to say. of course reminding her she has said that before . this seems to be a good place for you all to do that . after all you are among friends . I for one don't mind . if you feel the need to share and if it makes you feel better . why not . when I get sad about life . I try to focus on the most pleasant thought I have stored away .It helps . I really must feed my chickens .

Yes, I agree. Those numbers don't sound like shrink wrapping would be the issue.

I just wanted to let you know anytime you need someone to talk to shoot me a message. I lost my mom in '06 and being my father's caretaker I've watched his steady decline over the past 4 or 5 years. He too has COPD/Emphysema along with spinal stenosis and average old age decline (he's 84.) It's hard. I'm 41 and the thought of loosing him still scares me. So big hugs and lots of prayers!
