She said/He said Who's right? Who's wrong? No one!

I think I'm going to try this stuff. You can use it to sanitize your bator as well as a variety of other house hold surfaces. There's a brand called Tex-Wipe that want to try, it's $7 for a 22oz spray bottle of it. When I start getting eggs from these gals I think I'll do a little experiment with this stuff, if it doesn't work I'm only out of $7.

Excellent parade. Great hatch @RubyNala97

Gotta go back, but wanted to comment on this first... Ruby heard about some dipping theirs in Listerine and swearing by it, but I would not do either Listerine or hand sanitizer...
Reason why... both contain alcohol... before it evaporates some will seep in... alcohol is proven to cause birth defects in mammals so to me that is too much of a risk of causing damage to embryo of any animal...
I wonder if you can use oxine for this. I think that I may have read this somewhere.

Yes, you can... Oxine is the only thing I would ever try using to dip eggs in... personally though, I just don't dip eggs, lol... I rarely do any eggs not our own anymore and of our own, I only set clean, even shaped good eggs...

Learning from experiments is good... I'm just not a fan of wetting hatching eggs in any way before setting... I think the bloom does a way better job than anything we can try... jmo... :)

On FB there is this hatching group (I can PM the name). The guy that started it is...something else. Ruby added me so I could see it a week or so ago and indeed, this guy swears by using a 50/50 solution of listerine GOLD and water on the eggs. (I think most of what is said on there is well, bat dung.) But that is what she is talking about. Of course this is someone who stated the worse advice he ever got was from BYC so....

I agree with the natural bloom being the best... but like in Megan's case, she got nasty eggs. It just seems like there should be something that we could use. I want to research the stuff that Walnut mentioned further.

yea, the bloom is WAY better, I'm just saying if there's a circumstance where you have to wash your eggs, like poopy eggs or something, or if you just want to wash them for some reason, I'm wondering if this could act as a kind of replacement bloom.

My broody has a hatcher under her. We went to check on the coop and there's a hatched egg pushed out from under her and a peeper peeping away. Every few minutes you see movement up by her breast and she sticks her beak down there and pushes her back....lol I want to see her sooo bad. There's 2 more eggs under there so we are still waiting. My son says, "You would think her sitting on it like that would squish it's guts out and kill it." LOL Yup, it's proving to be an educational experience for sure!

Time to go sit on your hands again. Within viewing distance, of course!
