I feed mine that from hatch to lay... got it recommended by a good source, and been happy with it ever since... is good for my chooks and Calls...
He was super healthy and gaining weight nicely... and it was very quick so think it was a hidden health defect...

That really stinks, I'm so sorry about that, I know that's the worst. Maybe we can all keep an eye out for another 1 similar so maybe you can get another 1 to improve your flock. I know it wouldn't be the same though.

So, still forgot to take pics of the candling. At the 7 day I had separated out the ones I suspected being early quitters, had taken out the clears, and wound up with 12 that I felt were doing good. Candled all tonight and 2 I had on the "good" side had quit. But 2 I had on the "bad" side surprised me with development/movement! So it all evens out. So far at 30% of shipped eggs have development going into the last stretch of the incubation. We'll see where we're at in the next few days!

I'm way behind. I was going to say she has an auto-turner. I don't, and have to hand turn all of my batches. So, I know exactly what you mean. But it's not the veins I'm worried about. It's the darker spot. I've had some like that and the veins start receding a few days later. I'm not saying that's going to happen. Just my experience when I have those dark tissue spots. Not sure if tissue is the right word, either.

I was going to ask if those are duck eggs but I saw they are. That happens with duck eggs! It's black staining on the shell. There is a whole thread about it.

Different pen. No fowl pox in this pen. Speaking of pox they are seriously worse. Her whole right eye is almost swollen shut from it. And she has stopped laying. It seems the rooster has it also. His devil horns are covered. I feel so bad for them. I am giving them vitamins so hopefully it clears up soon.

Good to know about duck eggs. Keep an eye out for staining. But don't you think since it's lock down time there should be more of a mass and not so much clear fluid??

I'm sorry they are not doing good! And I feel so bad for your little one you lost. Yes, I agree. Looks like that egg stopped awhile ago. I knew you guys would cover that!

As they approach POL, he'll see them as a big target with a red bulls eye dead center!

It is my considered opinion, after decades of intensive research, that all domestic animals are born with the "selectively deaf" gene, particularly when their owner/handler is pressed for time or the animal can fly or outrun said owner/handler.

That selectively deaf gene appears quite often in humans. Most often shows up in juveniles, and males, and is found on the same chromosome as the "ask for directions" gene.

What do y'all think of Mottled Javas? I know they're on the endangered list as critical and that makes them intriguing to me, lol. I found some on Craigslist, of course, for $30 for a dozen but she said she always gives extras, she said she normally gives everyone 14 to 16. I wonder if I should get some of those.

You're diving in awful fast girl! I'd suggest that you get the eggs you've got going through the brooder stage and then look at adding an other breed in the spring. You're going to need separate housing for all of your exotic breeds, unless you want to end up with a barn yard mix.

I agree, ross... the duck eggs don't look right for the time all around...

They are Peking, Rouen and Khaki crosses and should be 28 day incubation. I set them at 10pm on Sept 11. Temps steady at 100-101 and humidity 35-40%. So tonight should start day 27 correct?
