Agreed. Start local and cheap. To date, I've only hatched eggs from within 6 miles of my house. Those eggs were from friends, This year was the first experience setting eggs from my own flock (first year with a rooster!) Looking forward to the ship-a-thon so I can expand my horizons and experience. It's okay to cry over spoiled eggs, but when those are done set some local cheap eggs and work on technique. Document everything you do and everything you see, and over time you will see what works and what doesn't.
Not really sure how old they were. She told me when I 1st emailed her that she would start collecting for me and I went to get them like 5 days or so after that. But the air cells looked very big for week old eggs. Those were the "cheap eggs" and they are definitely quitting alot more than the others. Out of 18 of those I have 5 leftAnd the other 1 that I thought was quitting earlier did, and that was 1 of the "expensive eggs" so now out of 12 of those I have 7 left. So out of 30 eggs I have a 12 left
I really do want to cry

Plenty of extra land on this coastNot that we have any money right now to get any, but it's still there.
So, to be clear--yep, Frieda's broody, and Ravyn will be sending me eggs tomorrow. I could've actually had her send them earlier, but I'm waiting on my hygrometer to arrive, and it's supposed to be here tomorrow. I figure I'll have the couple days of transit time to get everything calibrated, and then transit and resting time to make sure everything's ready. I could've had her send them sooner, but I had used the order-$35-worth-of-stuff-and-get-free-shipping option (my older daughter got a $20 Amazon gift card from the library's summer reading program, and I took advantage of the need to spend $35 to get a hygrometer) so it's taking foreverrrrrr... Of course, 12 hours after I placed the order is when Frieda decided she was going to go full-on broody, instead of just toying with the idea.
Exactly what I was fixing to say, almostIt's okay to cry over spoiled eggs, but when those are done set some local cheap eggs and work on technique. Document everything you do and everything you see, and over time you will see what works and what doesn't.
Well, there's certainly nothing stopping you from inserting a few of your own comments & feedback here & there; the word'll soon get around.Better to laugh than cry I guess, lol. She's seriously p***in me off though. I really want to go to her house and make her talk to me, face to face. And I've been thinking of doing like you said though, just cutting my loses and working with what I get from this hatch, if anything. I don't want anymore dirty, nasty eggs to stress over and this time they would be shipped on top of being filthy so I'm sure they wouldn't do good at all. And I'm pretty sure I'm not the first person she's done this to. The bad thing is she runs a website for selling Icelandics and eggs. I wish I had seen some feedback or comments on her so called "services" but of course there wasn't anything like that on her site.
ETA: Did you wash your's also?
Up to 3 pips tonight... and pip #2 is already zipping... Has tons of energy compared to the other 2. First is still just a peak in the shell...
Mine don't dare complain... it was fheir dogs that wiped out our entire grow out pen this summer... and family is still split due to them... I'll talk to them when they grow up and take care of their responsibilities... in the mean time, I increased my Call duck flock with lots of girls!!
Still not enough eggs to bother collecting and sending... one hen raising a single chick, another is molting so bad she can see and has no crest and a couple others molting but not as bad as her... the others are still spotty layers and rest are too young... :/
Oooooo!!!!!! .......my surprise????
I want to get more silkies. I only have the one partridge pullet she has yet to start laying for me. She was hatched in April.....so.....yeah. nothing yet.
I guess I'm pretty lucky to be situated where I am. We're 600+' off the road. Nearest neighbors are renters @ the end of the lane; next nearest has more chickens than we do, by far. Nothing behind or beside us but fields & deer.

Cheer up...one of mine was broody for two solid months, then decided to quit two hours after I gave her another clutch.Plenty of extra land on this coastNot that we have any money right now to get any, but it's still there.![]()

There is way too much liquid still in the egg... can see from the candling... they are drowning before they can pip... what is your average ambient humidity there?
It was all I could do to not laugh in his face... he just kept repeating "but I was told you had Calls for sale..."
Call in a noise complaint... local Sheriff's office... even in the country there are disturbing the peace laws...
I've gotta hatch every egg for a while once they start laying... I am not sure when I might release eggs, but you and WV will be the first to know...
