Got a bantam cochin egg today. Its so tiny!
Also making cookies from a FERTILE lavender orpington egg! These might be the best cookies I've ever made!

That is awesome... I have a black Ameraucana broody who adopts any chick I give her from the bator... haven't tried ducklings though...

I just had a Marans and 2 Silkies go broody though... hmmm...

No chicks, no eggs to tend so I made some Italian Sausage (toasted fennel seed, caraway, coriander, red pepper) and some Breakfast Sausage tonight (sage, coriander, red pepper). If only I could just take one weekday a week and make pasta, bread, sausage, smoked meats or other time consuming things...weekends are out, too many other things going on.

Isn't that little cochin eggie adorable? Would take a dozen to feed DH, but I suppose they will get bigger. She came out of an egg that was bigger.

I'm never gonna make it through winter without firing up the bator again. :/

This is the 1st Marans I've had go broody, so dunno... haven't counted her eggs, she's sitting super tight though... nobody is laying an egg under her...

The Silkies are trying to hatch their feet... :/

Trying to decide if I wanna give them the Silkie eggs I stuck in the bator a couple days ago, or use them for Calls...

Hi everyone

Work has been so crazy and I've had almost no time for BYC lately, which stinks. There's a person in the class I'm training who should just be kicked out but the supervisor won't do it so my hands are tied. That's been a pain in the butt this week.

Snap's eggs all died during all her nest switching Luckily for her I have eggs hatching in the 'bator but it's still too bad she lost them all. She'll get some incubator chicks to raise though so she'll be happy.

On the ayam cemani front, all of the last four eggs I put in the incubator are fertile and developing. At least one hen is laying but she's laying on the ground so with all this rain I'm getting really muddy eggs Ah well, it won't keep them from hatching.

I understand that. We've got spaghetti sauce going we need to bottle. And there are so many other things I want to try. This job is kind of getting in the way of my hobbies.

Many birds are molting right now too... some will still lay, but may not be fertile due to hens being uncomfortable getting treaded by a rooster right now... if she sent lots of extras to make up for it, then that's a good seller... we take our chances with shipped, and at this time of year it's a bigger crapshoot...
Yeah, you know my thoughts about that one... I am sorry I didn't hear about that sooner...

I'll send you a good mix asst in Spring too, if you want... I hope Tao chick isn't discouraged from trying again...

Sorry to hear abiut Snap's eggs... at least she'll adopt bator chicks though... love those good broody's...

Sorry it's so muddy, but I'm glad I'm not the only one with chickens that insist on making an Easter Egg Hunt outta their eggs... my Cream Legbars are horrible about that... I swear they glare at me when I collect their eggs and the next day the hunt is on... :/

Glad the 4 eggs are developing nicely, any chance one of them is from the hen you lost?

Nope... my incubator never gets put away... it's an established piece of furniture in our living room...

Actually, I think chicapee said that... and pulled it back out...

I know, I am crazy. I don't know what I will do with myself all winter. I get a peaceful feeling when I have eggs in it and all jittery when it is empty.
