Just hauled all the pumpkins I grew this summer in, as we should be getting our first frost this week. My chickens love pumpkins, and I'm hoping I can get them fed before they start to soften. I've got a food storage room in the basement, so I should be able to.

I usually pick up a truck load after Halloween for free. Some go to the birds, but most go up hunting. Deer love 'em.

I never though about using them for deer. In my last garden before moving here, I lost a few to deer.

Our deer are too dumb to eat pumpkins. I put 2 of them out on a known trail & they never touched them. Squirrels & birds loved me, though.

I've actually heard of Orcutt's.  They were in Bellaire and raised an extinct variety called Michigan Whites.  There was another farm right at my corner that raised them too.

Thats my husband's great grandpa. My MIL found those slides in a box and gave them to us.
