She said/He said Who's right? Who's wrong? No one!

Hello again everyone! Work has calmed down for the week so hopefully I can actually follow along in here, lol.

I hatched some absolutely adorable chicks for the Halloween hatch a long that I need to post pictures of. I had a 100% hatch rate but unfortunately a freak accident killed one of them

Still, the others are doing great. I'm also getting ayam cemani eggs pretty steadily so those will be going into the 'bator on a regular basis.

Speaking of ayam cemanis, someone again started a new thread talking about them, this time dissing the American birds as a whole, calling them less desirable and hybrids. They also said that there were three lines in the states - the 'Indonesian' line (which would be illegal to own since you can't import from Indonesia so...), the European line (I guess the birds from GFF? But GFF doesn't guarantee color and breeds from imperfect birds, I have a picture to prove it, so I'm not sure why these are better than other breeder's flocks?) and the 'American' line, which apparently has terrible color leakage and look like hybrids.

I really have no clue what this person is talking about. There are three legal lines in the US that I know of, but they are the GFF lines, the TMA lines, and the Mike Bean lines - and yes, with the Mike Bean lines, I could see that they are possible hybrids, my guess is with leghorns, but that's not ALL American birds. No lines are named after countries/continents. I really have no clue where people come up with this stuff.
You ever hear of cancer problems in Cemani's from all that black pigmentation? I know it's a problem in tropical fish.

Someone else has mentioned that to me, but I can't remember where I saw it. Cancer could easily be the cause of the random death of my hen that I posted about two weeks ago - she had no external signs of illness and just died for no discernible reason.

Dad had a stroke before he came to stay with us that took his ability to speak. He had to go through speech therapy & learn to talk again. His therapist was working with him one day; she'd hold flash cards up & he was to tell her what picture was on the card. She held up a picture of a car, & he said "57". She says "No, Mr. Whiteside, try again". He says "57". She says "No, it's a car". He says "It's a '57 Chevrolet, da...it".  He was right!

Ohh I'm caught up again for the the first time in ages.

Kasey is sitting again. Started with 9 this time, but 2 got broken already. Also brought new silkies and frizzles at auction last week.

Got given some free silkie cockerel's as well.
400

Turns out the breeder that gave them to me is as good at sexing silkies as @scflock.
The one in the picture has layed 3 eggs since I've had it. Pretty good for a free "cockerel"

Threads like that do not last long on BYC. Let the mods know about and they will keep an eye on it.

And flood the southeast

We haven't seen the sun since Saturday
I live in the middle of the projected weather changes. I have lived through 4 of these in my lifetime and we expect unsettled weather. It will go from warmer than normal to colder than normal. We should have more rain here but not as much as the south.

And wind too likely.

We have a town in MD, on the Potomac near Dargon's Bend (WV likely knows exactly where I'm talking about) where I'm pretty sure there are only 2 DNA's represented in the entire town. Everyone you see when you drive along that stretch of the river looks the same, & you don't EVEN want to stop.
In my town there are 2 families that heavily populate it, with very similar spelling of their names. Seems that somewhere back along the family tree, some one made a mistake on a birth certificate... So... If you divorce your wife, is she still your cousin????

Does anyone know how to keep up the humidity with a fan kit??? I filled the water wells and with the fan going the humidity is hanging out around 52%..... when I add more water it goes up but everything is drying out faster even with sponges.
For lock down, right? Someone else said: put the sponge in a dish of water. That will solve your problem. If it doesn't, get a bigger sponge.

. I said "Dad, what did you put on your ear?" He says, "That stuff you have out there...." That stuff I have out there is the Blue Kote I bought for the chickens! God love him. Dang southerner.

Sounds like something my dad would do. He's old school all the way!

I can't tell you how often I've had a patient "zing" me with a one liner that I didn't understand! Love it when that happens.

Just a case of mis placed feelings of superiority.

Perhaps you should save that one for a breeder. How cool to have a rooster that passes on genes for male eggs. But, then again, most likely, all of his eggs would be roosters. (before I get slammed with a genetics lesson.... JK!)

That's exciting! Which breed are the two hens you might get? :)

They are white silkies. From the pics I saw they are very nice. And if the person is honest then they hatched them from a good reputable breeder. I'm waiting to here back about them!

Silkies? Oh...pics when you get them!!!!

I will! They have some nice showgirls! How about taking a 6 hour ride??? ;)

Ruby knows, lol... and yes, that's what she meant... none of her Silkie pullets are laying yet so she's been trying to hatch Silkies from shipped with mixed results... these are Silkie hens she's going for... :D ;)

Yes, that's what I meant! I'll have eggs if they are laying but I won't be able to incubate them!

I've been cooking and eating :D

Hey I found one of my earrings in the run. Untouched. But it was already dark, so I'll have to look for the other tomorrow in the daylight.

Oh good!!! I bet you'll find the other today!

I remember someone talking about draping a paper towel to make a wick?

Ok, so, anecdote:

Most of you know that I take care of my elderly father (he's 84).  I was standing in his room today talking to him and he happened to turn his head so his bedside table light illuminated the side of his face/head. I notice that his ear looked purple (the whole ear), like it wasn't getting circulation. He's been having problems with that ear. Around the inside rim amd behind it it's been sore and scabby- almost looks like psoriosis. So I step closer and make him turn his head- it's purple all right. I said "Dad, what did you put on your ear?"  He says, "That stuff you have out there...."   That stuff I have out there is the Blue Kote I bought for the chickens! God love him. Dang southerner.  ;)

:lau I did not see it going in that direction either!!

@RubyNala97 I just feed mine whole to the chickens. They start a picking a little hole and before long, they eat the entire thing. They love them. They are on it like a pack of dogs on a three legged cat.

Ok, I'll throw one in today! Thanks!

Happy you have lots of incubating ahead!! Lucky girl!! As for the thread, I would ask for references on the information.
