She said/He said Who's right? Who's wrong? No one!

Now that's funny! :gig  SC's only fear is getting the silent treatment.

No hero.  We just always spent way less than we made, paid all charges off every month, paid extra toward mortgages and car loans every month until they were paid off and stayed basically debt-free.

It's kinda falling into place here - I picked up a part-time job from home with a company that used to work for my old hospital, we rented out the apartment that's over part of our house and DH has picked up landscaping jobs here and there.  I've already been offered as much work as I want to do and we can buy decent health insurance through the marketplace.  Way less stress.

Best move we ever made :)

That is awesome and amazing... figured a plan and you followed through... very few have the foresight to see all that... my hat is off to you... :)

Yep wet burlap sacks to keep them quiet .in route . got me a fast car all ready . Chicken Road going to be a hit movie .just like Thunder Road from the Fifties .

got to have me some black market chicken .

Tastes better blackened. But no one ship Ayam Cemanis--that's just redundant.
Tester has to be a licensed vet... and good luck... it is hard to get them to do it unless you have a vet willing and happy to do poultry...
My breeder friend I got my Calls and Ohiki from is in Ohio... we met in KY, lol...

Ecxept hot water freezes faster due to the molecules moving faster...

This is such an interesting topic! The molecule theory hasn’t been verified yet, has it? Or has it? Isn't the idea that water molecules, grouped together, introduce hydrogen bonds, and as water is warmed up, it becomes less dense, and as a result, the hydrogen bonds are stretched as the molecules move farther apart, allowing the covalent bonds to shrink and release their energy, which is equivalent to cooling. So the hot water is able to release energy faster, which results in a quicker freeze? I hope I understand it. We were learning about this theory the other day at a meeting. SO cool. The other two theories not quite as interesting, imo.

That sounds about right... gah, you're making my brain hurt trying to dig that deep... been a long while since I did Chem... :plbb

Turk you stick to the plan . don't overload yourself . good thing your in a warmer climate . that means you have more options than some of us . It would be nice to have laying pullets for sale end of Feb, I would think they would sale . I' m hatch them grow them take them to market . or in my case auction . I should hit auction with several full grown chickens by then .that is except for the ones I hatch from Ravyn all the pullets stay here . and Roos two of each breed . Sundays hatch all but one it hatched on Monday
What breed are those? They sure are pretty

*stick to the plan, stick to the plan* if i listen to you and myself, maybe i can be Friday when i grow up?

lol Tool is supposed to be on tour this coming year. <3  Of course, I'm trying not to get too excited.  Sarcasm and cruel practical jokes are in their nature, but it was announced. If they do I'll be super stoked.  The Puscifer show a few weeks ago was unspeakably amazing.  Wish I could have seen G&R back in the day, but I was a wee bit too young for that. lol
Yumm!  I'm not hiding, just lurking. ;)  How's it going?

Good luck Megan!  We are playing "guess the mystery condition" with one of our best pullets, right now.  No fun.

@BYC910
  Those chicks are tooooo cute!

Ahhh yes ive heard about Tool too! (Then forgot :he ) I used to do all the classics all the time, and i :Love G&R but im listening to alot more modern stuff lately. Probly becuz i became addicted to the Octane station... Same way i hear about those things too ;) matter fact Puscifier had an interveiw w the station on Sat! I musta heard that interveiw 4x now :eyeroll: very interesting that you brought them up...

If she days there on them tomorrow I might swap them for the eggs I have in the Brooder inside. I wonder how much a 5 day hatch would confuse her?

:lau good question! I have no idea, ive never had a broody hen, but id like ta kno...

That's what I thought too. I'm hoping it's just that she got chilled. There still isn't much improvement though. The temp lastnight was mid 50's according to the AccuWeather on my phone. Yes, I put her out earlier in the day, it was fairly warm that dayn probably mid 60's but it dipped down in the forties at night the 1st night, lastnight was fairly decent. They have a heat lamp but the only place I could clip it was to the roof and it's about a foot and a half above the floor, it's a 100 watt bulb.
Gotta keep those babies warm. Either a heat lamp, or a MHP, either way, you need LOTS of bedding as a lot of heat is lost through the floor. I'd recommend, that with either method, you put a thermometer in with them, measure the heat at level of chick's back. If there are a lot of chicks, it's not quite so critical, but cool chicks = dead chicks.

I can tell you now, Ohio is a no-go... they shut down their borders to any incoming poultry a couple months ago...

You might have better luck getting a hold of the USDA, idk... it's an issue of different groups not talking to each other... Dept of Ag, APHIS, USDA and USPS... and this is why I don't ship, lol...
Given all of the politics regarding the AI threat (which IMO is highly over rated and blown way out of proportion) we can expect more government interference in the way we enlarge our flocks. My recommendation is to encourage folks through your individual state threads to diversify their flocks. If every state had active members, and each member had a breeding trio of some of the old heritage breeds, we'd be well set up to bypass the foolish gov. regs. Being set up to take care of your own flock renewal needs independent of hatcheries is a huge step in self reliance. When shipping, I think I'll go the route of double boxing, packing well, no labeling regarding contents.

DH and I basically quit our jobs, sold our houses and moved to NM a year ago so we could take a break. We've worked hard for it, and next year we'll have to start back working more for a few more years until we can tap into our retirement funds. We're calling it our gap year.

So we're enjoying it while we can :)

Plus, we love the Keys and it's a great place to rent a house right on the water with the kids and grandkids.
You have done well with your financial management. Kudos to you in these times with a buy now, pay later mentality!

Now that's funny!

Given that you're doing ok with work from home and hubby's landscaping, do you see the need to go back to the usual work force grind?

Well I finally figured out which silkie is laying which egg. I get a creamy colored, very smooth egg, and the other one is more pink and less slick. Went out early this morning and the darker egg was already in the box, so I watched for one to go back inside and she finally did. And I got the lighter smoother egg, so now I know!
Great timing too, since I'm going to set some of those eggs next week. Now I plan to set more of the darker ones because she is the prettier girl! Yeah!
