She said/He said Who's right? Who's wrong? No one!

Wow, that's a bummer on the silkies, but those are some adorable chicks!  :love    The only d'uccles I tried were DIS, but that is pretty dang cute.  Cochins are really cute babies too.

Oh, I think I'm going to slip a few silkie/cochin eggs in with the quail this weekend...  ;)    I hope he doesn't overload my bator!   I'm hoping to add maybe 4 of mine.
I've gotten some nice eggs the past few days, nice shape and color.  I marked the ones I was able to catch before they got too cold.  I think...

How did the quail hatch go??? I'm so out of the loop...please update me! What type of quail?

They're still cute as heck... congrats on the babies... btw, you're still first for Silkie eggs from me if ya still want them... :)
How're Katherine's eggs now???

Sounds good! I have eggs too, so please let me know if you want to trade!

So our new chicks refused to stay in the brooder making a disaster of the basement (hubby says never again will birds be allowed in the house

). So we had no choice but take them to the coop. They are terrified of the hens who won't let them eat or drink

. They spent about 2-3 days in a xl dog kennel in the coop (they had their own food & water) and only let them out under supervision. For the past week they have been out but the trio stay together in a corner or the opposite end of the roost far away from the hens. The past couple days have been really cold

6 weeks until spring my butt! I found the rooster out in the run alone (well besides the ducks) standing on one leg shivering. So I brought him in and made sure he had some food & water. Not sure if this is frostbite or an injury.

I am going to some how section off a piece of the coop with fencing until they can start getting along better. I am not sure this is just trying to re establish the pecking order, the hens dont like the cockrel or if they are just bored. The new ones seem to be very timid and not very vocal. Ugh I will never again hatch in late fall ever again!

Before I finished reading your post I was going to say that I've had amazing success by blocking off a section of the run with hardware cloth and putting the new chicks or adult birds in the smaller section. I put food on each side of the divider. This way they eat next to each other and get used to each other. I've had no issues when I remove it and they mingle together great. Good luck! It sure is cold today here too!

:lau. Love it!!!
Super cute fluffies!!!!! I want my gold laced cochin back!!! :hit

I believe that is what this chick is. Does it look gold laced to you? It will be for sale in spring! :)

Coturnix. Hopefully some different colors. Pharaoh, tuxedo, etc. Just locked down yesterday morning. No pips as of this morning. I'm hoping they wait till tomorrow afternoon to start. 16 eggs locked down. Temp steady, humidity about 65%.

Yep. We had Comcast(unlimited high speed) before we moved here. I went from streaming videos/music almost literally 24/7 to. . . let;s say not. We may get away with one or two hours of streaming 5 days a week now, and it's almost 3x's the price! I've heard in France they get unlimited cell, home internet and tele for some ridiculous amount--$40?

Hi, guys.

How does that hold up overnight?

Yes, hatch just finished up. Kinda a long story but I bought a dozen silkie eggs at a poultry show from a breeder, who I won't mention by name but she is one of the best in the country...a national champion. Well 3 of us that bought a dozen that day stayed in touch throughout the hatch. All anxiously awaiting this "amazing" stock. Well out of 36 eggs combined we only got 4 chicks!! (I got 3 of those). The eggs were a bust! And the chicks look like an average silkie chick. Very disappointed with this breeder. But I also set some other eggs we won at the show and all the ones that developed hatched. So here's pics of my first D'Uccles, 1 Cochin, and 1 GLW.

@WVduckchick

They are all so cute. Love those feathered feet.

Sorry about the silkie eggs, but those chicks look better than mine do a day old. I think d'uccle chicks are about as cute as they come
You still have those feather footed beauties you had that I can't remember what you called them?

My three that were hatched by broody last October still stay together. I call them the three stooges. I think they are all girls, but they are not pretty....lol one has muffs and beard. Te bigger ones will still peck at them if they try to eat next to them....lol

Can't wait to see tiny little babies. We decided to put the quail idea on hold for now.
