My incubator sits right next to a light. So it's on till I go to bed. Haven't really thought about its effects on hatching. If I have early chicks, I will turn the light off to try and calm them down so they don't play egg bowling with the other eggs.
Don't worry if they seem late. I've read and talked to a local quail breeder that says she gets hatches day 19 usually, all the way to day 22.
That was actually my question. If anyone had considered the effects on hatching. I don't guess it makes any difference, but it crossed my mind.
And I have no idea when the quail will hatch. I couldn't even judge the air cells very well because those eggs are so tiny! I guess it will happen or it won't! LOL
I have a question for my chickens friends. I bought a young silkie at the show last month. She's about 12 weeks old, now. I had her inside for almost a month and just moved her outside last week. Our temps were mild in the 40's and 50's. She loved going out and is doing great! But now we are having a major cold snap! Tomorrow the temps will go down below zero. Should I move her indoors? I have an area set up in my basement. I would put another young friendly pullet with her if I do, so she's not alone. Or do you think she'll be ok?

I'm debating whether to put my plate brooder out in the coop with the sebrights this weekend. We are supposed to get close to zero, and they are supposedly fragile birds. They stay in the coop until I come out in the mornings, but they still rush out to greet me, no matter how cold it is. I'd say trust your gut, whatever you feel you need to do for her!
She's very pretty, by the way!
