She said/He said Who's right? Who's wrong? No one!

Boy, what a long day/night/day. I was full on red team this go around and I am glad I was or only two of them would have made it. We have 6 that are in the clear now!! I am really torn about what to do with the scissor beak chick, though. It's still alive, and bless its poor little heart, it wants out. But the scissor beak is really bad and I have heard/read that when it's that bad at hatch, mortality rate is high. Here is a pic, tell me what you guys think:
I had one like this hatch and it died after 2 weeks because the beak kept spreading until it could no longer eat. It maDE me sad because I know it was a hen. :(

My silkies are adventurers. They range just as much as my others, and all but one roost with the others in the coop. Actually a lot of time they go in first so they can get the top. I do have one that perches on the side of my ground level nest box. And yes they are silkies, not bearded and all pretty like Ruby's so they can actually see better....lol Between winter erosion and them scratcing they have a spot that I need to fix in the run where one the silkies keeps sliding under the fence to get out.

Interesting.
Perhaps my silkies don't run off because they can't see. My splashes have such Nice top head, LOL, I have to trim there feathers around there eyes, they can hardly see the ground to peck at food or take a drink.

Ive been in love since I saw your avy. It's beautiful! Great shot, too. It's nice when it happens like that.
Thanks darlin! It was like she was curtzying at me. I enjoy changing my avatar fairly often, but she's going to be a hard one to change. I did get a good shot with her on my shoulder though... Stay tuned.. ;)

Yea, I'm with Ravyn on this one. Think I'd have to just see what mother nature has in store for it. Great pic of it though!

How bout some pics of your silkies??? :)

Wow he does have scissor beak, the thing with them, is they will pass it on to there off springs. As hard of a decision as it is, you got to ask yourself,

Would I really be able to get the most out of him. Well if you can't breed him, could you? chances are it will get so bad you'll have to keep trimming it just because he won't be able to eat or drink. I'm not one to say, YES to cull him because I don't cull anything, but in your case, if you have the heart, I would say it's may not be a bad choice, however, if you don't mine a PET, he will probably make an EXCELLENT one..

No judgement either way you deside....

I have tried but was not very successful, you can put this ointment on the jaw bones to correct the problem. It has not worked for me yet but my vet said give it a shot...

Yup.... like Ruby's no wonder they don't run off....lol

Well, this one still hasn't hatched. Still see blood veins. He still peeping and opening and closing his mouth like he is sucking up the yolk. Something has to be wrong or do some take that long? I don't know what to do.

400
he is out. I guess time will tell if he makes it are not. The Vaseline worked great! I only had to apply it once in all that time and it kept the membrane moist.
So stressed from this hatch and I have more coming up...
