shelf life of chicken feed

Just keep it in a area that doesnt get damp at all it should be good for about 6 months. I had some awhile back though i kept it in the basement and it got cool and damp there i guess and was moldy after a couple months right on the bottom of the bag.

I bought 50 lbs of what they call cracketts and within 2 months it started to smell rancid. It was stored in air tight container. I think the feed store that I got it at had it stored for a long time before it was sold. I live in the city where the feed store is I think they don't sell a lot of feed so it sits too long. I am going to go outside the city to a rural area feed store they sell more feed so their supply of feed doesn't sit as long in the store.

Had to visit this thread, lucked out and got a Purina Layena Omega unopened bag from someone who got rid of their chickens last month(thought I had scored some great edible feed) went to open bag and it's all moldy mess... Grateful didn't waste $$ but geez don't know what to think, was I passed on old damp feed bag from a neighbor?
