Shell less duck egg with broken yolk next to it

Not outrage, not needed...Simple care and no need for concern to stress the Bird out...One Hen who is probably being over bred by one Randy Drake and her young productive system is being compromised by that act of breeding..I'm not arguing..I'm explaining..

I am very thankful that everyone has put their input on this, very thankful!!! I am new to this and all hands on deck is how I handle any problem in this thing we call life. Yes there is a thing called TMI but I strongly feel when undertaking any new task, especially a life, the more input the better! I don't want to step on any toes, nore do I want to ignore anyone's advise and I would hope that we are all here for same reason....knowledge, understanding, and guidance.

It's great to get more than one opinion before making a decision. I am one who likes to error on the side of caution. .

Calcium is not a medication or an antibiotic... it is a mineral supplement... same level as a vitamin supplement... which some individuals, regardless of breed or species, need higher amounts of that others do not...

Just so you know...Young Birds draw calcium from their bones at first so the extra fed calcium is not used...Just so you know...

Yes this true, I do have another post on here where I think my girl is getting over breed since there are only one drake and only one hen. I did not think that these two thread played hand and hand.

She is not overbred if that pic is indicative of what she usually looks like... as long as the drake isn't rough on her, they can mate many, many times a day and just the act of mating does not harm the duck... overbreeding issues are stress from a drake being rough, forcing the duck, tearing up her back and head from being rough... IF she showed those signs, yes, that stress *could* cause her additional issues... I do not see a single sign that she has any of that though...


And for the record, if any bird is depleting their bones of calcium to lay, then their system is not getting enough calcium or absorbing enough usable calcium to support their laying... depletion of bone calcium is dangerously unhealthy for them and can lead to additional problems in the future... just fyi...

Girlfriend got peas soaked in calcium pills, kale and extra loves from me tonight!!! I will keep you all informed in the early AM tomorrow.

On a twisted side note, I had leftover ham from thanksgiving and two duck eggs (one from Wednesday lay and one from Fridays lay) for dinner......and both eggs were double yolkers!!!

Glad you got some extra calcium into her, and extra love is always good!

The double-yolkers is another bit to be added into all this... I know many who love to get them, but those are also hard on a birds reproductive system... I would keep track of those as well... maybe set up a laying chart about her...
