Shell-less egg !

Something's interfering with your hen's calcium utilization. It could be that it's one of her first eggs of the year, and she just needs some time to "get it together." I understand that city water is bad for shell production, if it contains floride, so you may need to find an alternate water source. Providing a calcium supplement is the only solution that I can offer. Good luck!

I found one like that the other day. It was weird. I also been finding soft eggs splatted under the roost. I think it is from the same hen.
They have easy access to oyster shell which gets eaten alot by the girls. I have not been able to figure out who it is yet. Six of the girls are laying nice strong shelled pullet eggs and the 7th is the one with the weird eggs.

Mine just started laying this month so I figured it could be that their bodies are not completely in rythm yet. Sure hope this girl starts laying normally soon or I may have to cull her out.

My Silkie does that often. Strangest thing. She's almost two years old, didn't start laying until she was 14 months old and often drops them right on the droppings board first thing in the morning. It does seem related to calcium because even when she lays eggs with shells, they're not very hard. She's got access to oyster shell 24/7, so I really just don't know what the problem is either.

My Red Star layed two shell-less eggs the other day, then she went right back to laying hard-shells... kinda weird, but if she doesn't keep laying soft ones over and over, it should me fine.

Had this happen to us also, turned out to be calcium problem - we weren't giving them a supplement. One day when I had a shell less egg I discovered the soft shell half hanging out of the hen, I had to gently pull it out.
