She's going to die..

This is heartbreaking. I'm so sorry.......

Is there any hope here - does anyone know if there anything that can quickly be done for these poor little babies? If it's nutritional, an infusion of the right nutrients fast..........?

Well, I'm not an expert but I do know that there is a disease called coccidiosis - or cocci for short - that can wipe out baby chicks in no time and it's also common. Important question: Is the chick starter you are giving them medicated because medicated chick starter will protect them from cocci. For more info, go to google and type in coccidiosis in chickens. Oh, and one more thing. A sure sign of cocci is blood in the stool although that isn't always the case. Also want to add that liquid amprolium can be used to stop any more from getting it if it is cocci. You may be able to get it at a local feed store. If not, I know a place you can order it from online. I'll look up the link and get back to you.

How old are your chicks? Another illness that is very contageous among chicks is mareks disease. This usually affects chicks around 4 weeks or so. It causes paralysis and, if you order chicks from a hatchery, they can immunize them against mareks before sending them. If that's what they have, I don't know what you can do for them now. Usually its fatal. In any case, if you can possibly afford it, take one that's just died to a vet or university for a necropsy so you know what you are dealing with. I'm so sorry for you and your chicks. I know how heartbreaking this is.

We need to figure out what is going on here. It just seems strange that we are all having the same problems. I know my were vaccinated for both Mareks and Cocci (or at least I was charged for it).

I don't think they vaccinate for coccidiosis but I could be wrong. Usually people use medicated chick feed to protect them. Anyway, there is a very knowledgeable "chicken doctor" who has his own website and alot of people on BYC go there to ask questions. His name is Peter Brown. Trouble is, he sometimes takes a while to respond. The website is www.featherfanciers.com Also he has an online store which is www.firststatevetsupply.com I have his phone number too but he is VERY hard to reach. Seems the number is busy a lot but here it is for what it's worth. 1-800-950-8387 I thought the medication I ordered once before for cocci was amprolium but I can't find it in his online store so maybe it was something else. I'll see what I can find out.
