OK, they called my trainer to let her know they'd be picking Rosie up tomorrow between 2 and 3 pm.

On the ANNOYING side, my farrier hasn't been to see her yet - he was supposed to go take care of her hooves a week ago !!!! I called him - I REALLY need him to take care of her hooves before she leaves - I don't have a farrier here!!!

if its not one thing - its something else! BUT I"M HAPPY SHE WILL BE ON HER WAY TOMORROW!!!

hi Chelly, does she really need shoeing? or are her hooves nice and tough?
Have you got a farrier in place for the future?
I hope all goes well for you, its nervewracking waiting for horse transport.
Hugs
Helen

No she doesn't wear shoes, she used to - when I got her - but I had them taken off. She needs a trim! (she was THRILLED when those shoes came off)

She hurt her front left right before we moved, she kicked it with the back left! I don't want that to happen again - and certainly not in the truck!

What great news! I had to be away from my mare Chloe while I was relocated from upstate NY to PA. I'd had her since she was 3 and really missed her being away. When she walked off the trailer in the middle of a snowy PA night I can't tell you how overjoyed I was. I bought her when she was a 3 year old, and she lived in the most luxury I could afford her. She died at 34. The longest time I have ever spent with any living thing. She was a wonderful horse and family to me.

Enjoy the homecoming! Lots of carrots and love,
Mac

She's on the truck. My trainer called and told me how nice the truck was, clean and Rosie has a HUGE box all to herself, with tons of bedding!
All is well for now - we're working furiously to get things ready for her...... and I'm TIRED!

Oh Mac, I have Rosie's favorite treat just waiting for her. Peppermints - well peppermint flavored snacks - she gots NUTS for those! BUT if you give her one, be prepared for her to pat you down to check all your pockets for more!

Rosie got her hooves trimmed, thank goodness - I didn't want to do it so close to her trip - but at least they got done - I feel MUCH better!

OK, so the hoof/farrier thing got me wondering something I'd always questioned...

If horses in the wild don't wear shoes, and you aren't riding your horse on concrete/road, do they always need shoeing?

Just a curious question...

Susan

No they don't need shoes, my Rosie doesn't have any on - she did when I got her, but I had them taken off. She was being ridden longer and on rocky ground by the lady I got her from.
When I got her it was all riding on soft ground, some rocks but nothing major.

Now she gets trimmed ever 6-8 weeks. I'm not sure how horses in the wild get by, perhaps the ground is half rocky half not - and keeps their feet trimmed naturally.

I might have to learn how to trim her down myself - I don't think there is a farrier anywhere around here.....
