An update to my post!
Night one yielded poor results in ridding my girls if this pest. I put my bantam rooster in with the hens about 30 minutes too early. I saw the foxes eyes later that night in the wood line when I let the dogs out front to use the bathroom.
I called it a night and made a note.
Tonight!
I put the birds away and left my bantam out in his dog cage (30-40 ft from my back door).
Put the dogs away and checked the time.
730pm
I left the back door open turned off all lights and waited. I went out again at 830 and used my red light attached to my compound bow and scanned the darkness...
He was there watching and waiting but started off when he saw the light.
We did this one more time ten minutes later.
So I went back inside and dimmed my light so it wasn’t as bright and waited.
915pm I heard my Roo flap and make some noises! I went to investigate.
There it was! Darting back and forth testing the cage! Trying for an easy meal!
I drew back on the bow and aimed, praying I wasn’t too rusty from not shooting for three months and my concussion...
I loosed the arrow and poof! It buried into the dirt by the cage missing the fox who darted back to the wood line further back and glared at me waiting...
I reloaded another arrow and drew back again, took a deep breath and exhaled... thwack! The lighted nock on my arrow went running through the woods!
I found my arrow 150 meters back in the woods bloody but no fox.
I walked back towards where I shot it and discovered it’s body behind a tree and an interesting blood trail. I believe now the arrow went through him and into the woods, and he just ran in a circle and died.
Small little fellow. Stinky too.
Shame, I was hoping it was a touch bigger so I could get it skinned and made into a hat or just mount it’s skin on the wall...
Be advised the photos are graphic.
The video wouldn’t upload for some reason
