what would make a sound like that?

kinda like a cackle?

it was at night

we dont have hyena's, mountain lions, ect

we do have
raccoons
possums
coyotes
skunk
ground hogs
we may have fisher cats
may have badgers

it was off in the distance .. if i would have lived in the city i would have thought that there were people partying in the neighbors yard it was like a cackle / giggle... really spooky

sounds like coys. they are the weirdest sounding thing, especially the first time you hear it. it's almost 'fake' sounding.

Fisher cats sound like a crying baby-a really scary sounding crying baby!

Maybe a common loon? They have a strange, laughing cry....almost haunting. I love that sound!
