Shipment of chicks ... problem!

Lol A guard tower is not a bad idea! I live on 25 acres. about 20 of it is woods. The guy behind us has 90 acres of woods, he doesn't live there so it's wild. I think he deer hunts there. Anyway, we have bears, foxes, raccoons, hawks, owls & opposums that I've seen and I've heard the coyotes howling. I can't keep them out either....but I certainly wouldn't bait them closer by throwing fresh meat out for them!

A funeral pyre works well, too. I want to be cremated, so I figure it's good for my critters, too. I put the ashes in the garden to return them to the natural cycle. Everyone has to do what feels right for them.

UPDATE on Friday Feb 18, 2011 (If I knew how to change the title to add the word "update", I would)

Re-shipment of chicks came in today. Much better!

10 bantam blue silkies: 12 received, all look pretty good, various shades of gray (blue)

15 bantam easter eggers: 16 received, 1 doa, 1 died shortly after unpacking, so 14 remaining.

Two of the eggers may not be eggers; will wait until they feather out. One is pure white, head to leg, orange beak. One is burnt-sienna color (rust, auburn, whatever). Both of them are beautiful! See the pic ... I made red arrows to these 2. Question: Is it possible to have a 100% white easter egger? I do realize that feather colors change as they grow up, but still.... wondering!

Thanks, Cackle Hatchery.
