I wanted to fill folks in who may have ordered chicks that were sent by Express mail. Also known as overnight.
I recently received and order of chicks from Paul Harter. Part of the charge for the chicks was of course the shipping which was Express mail.
As usual, being that the last three shipments (not from Mr. Harter) were sent Express mail, . Two being replacements on the original, were late.
Knowing that EXPRESS mail is Guaranteed, I told Mr. Harter that the shipping fee is refundable since it was Late. That he should contact the PO.
Being the nice person that he is , he told me that he would do that and since I paid for the shipment that he would send me a check for the amount I paid.
So what is my Point? The earlier shipment in January was late and I did tell the breeder that the amount was refundable since the chicks were late. HE however did not offer to refund to me the shipping charges I paid.
Is the buyer of chicks sent Express mail entitled to a refund of the shipping charges if the shipment is late? It does require the breeder or hatchery who ships the chicks to contact the PO and make a claim for the refund. It is not something the buyer can do.
Well Mr. Harter is the type to say yes. That I think this is very noble. He could have , as the first breeder did, make a claim for the refund and pocket the $35 (or whatever the amount is) charged.
So it might be worthwhile to ask before ordering if the shipping charges will be refunded to you if the shipment is late. With the changes being made at the PO it is very likely they will be late.
And for me the last four shipments of chicks have been late which would result in a refund being warranted. (In the first transaction, I only paid for the original shipment and I feel the money, $40, should have been refunded. Or at least the amount minus the cost for the box. )
I just thought you should know.
