I posted a few pictures of some chicks that I've hatched on social media and I immediately had people who were interested in purchasing them. Unfortunately, I live in central Canada and they live as far away as a 3 hour plane trip. I'm not some hatchery by any means, but would I be able to ship chicks to them? Is there a cap on how old is too old when it comes to shipping poultry with a mail courier? My chicks are all set to hatch on Thursdays, and Canada Post doesn't work on Saturdays or Sundays to my knowledge, I don't know about Purolator or UPS or any other service though. Any suggestions as for what I should do?

Check to see if you need some type of license to mail live chicks. If you don’t, then the best time to mail a chick is as soon as they hatch since they can last 3 days without food or water right after they hatch, but after that they’ll most likely die. You also should make sure there’s 10-15 birds to ensure they won’t get too cold.

UPS & FedEx will be more expensive but I think they deliver everyday to include Sundays. Just make sure you charge shipping too or it will eat at your profit.

@hysop would you say that overnight shipping is the only way to go about shipping chicks, or would something like express/priority also work? Do you think that overnight shipping would work for chicks older than 1 day of age?

Overnight shipping costs like $50 that I know of so I don’t know if the person buying chicks would want to pay that.

I think most do express/priority if they get mailed the day they hatch. Which tends to get to the person within 2-3 days.
