Shipping during the current USPS situation.

I notified my mail man to keep watch and for three days I was worried- like find my ducks! Every day.....We ordered 3 ducks and upon arrival 3 days later, one was manic, one Half dead, and the other barely moving, it was suoer hot that week and the hatchery only left them a three ounce cup of water that had obviously spilled out days before. And the heat pack was still warm. We nursed them back to health but the next day the barely moving one -died of a seizure. Kids were so upset. Hatchery gave us money back but that's the last time I will do that.

Never have I ever heard of a hatchery putting a cup of water in the shipping box. Are you sure it wasn't grogel in the cup?

From what I am gathering, USPS is trying to get chicks to their destinations on time, at least for the most part. Obviously not perfectly.

Hatching eggs on the other hand seem very variable. It’s been all across the board for me. Have eggs sitting around somewhere right now that I won’t be able to pick up until tomorrow because of delays, shipped last Wednesday. But I’ve had others from faraway states arrive on time. Then the ones closest to me seem to take longer! Just ordered some from a person in KY - im in VA - and according to tracking, went from KY to TN, then to MD and finally sat at the big distribution center in VA. What the heck? Our states are touching! Eggs were a bit jimmied and already had to toss one. Also coming up from FL seems to be very rough on the eggs. Had two different batches come from different sellers and ultimately none survived.

ETA: They're here!

My chicks shipped out Priority on Wednesday, and tracking says "in transit - arriving on time" with a delivery date of Monday. 😥 I'm going to swing by my local PO today to see if they can help at all (like if I can pick it up at a hub?), and will also call the USPS.. but do any of you have suggestions or helpful knowledge about how the USPS works?

The woman I spoke to at the hatchery says that the packages leave MO on a FedEx plane to Indianapolis.. there's another regular FedEx flight from Indianapolis to Orlando.. which would get them close. I'm sick thinking they might just die in a USPS warehouse over the weekend...

I get lots of packages from the USPS, and don't think I've had one arrive before the expected date yet, though I'm hoping I'm wrong.

:woot They look good!

Good the arrival date was inaccurate. They would of never survived until Monday.
You can pick up chicks at the sorting station. I ran to a local post office who had incorrectly received a box of chicks and was looking for someone to come pick them up before they were returned to sender. I missed the truck and had to drive 40 miles to Denver to try and intercept the box. Long story short, the box of guineas was found and I was the proud owner of 10 keets. Prior to cell phones, that box would of been long gone.
What's in the box?
