So sorry for your loss. It is pretty cold and a lot of chick shipments have a hard time making it at this time of year.
Hope your replacement chicks make it ok.

Sorry to hear about this.
It brings up a good question- we are making a one hour drive to pick up some chicks next week.
In the frigid midwest weather we've been having, does anyone have tried & true tips on transporting
by car, other than to have the heat on full blast?
Hand warmers under a towel?

get a digital thermometer with a remote probe and stick it in the box with them keep it around 96 or so and they will be fine

I once bought some chicks from a local breeder about an hour away from me during cooler temperatures.

By the time I got home they were all woozy and one died almost immediately. We instantly started getting electrolytes into them and the remaining ones snapped out of it within the hour.

While the cold plays a part, I think just plain old stress weakens them. Not to mention chicks are super fragile. We had the heat up in the car and they were sitting on my lap.

Also that batch brought a nice disease along with them and wiped out a bunch of my flock...

This is why I have decided to go back to a hatchery. Now I am dealing with late delivery and high loss rates.

I am sure you will have no issues though, sorry if that was a little doom and gloom...I've had a bad day.

you r totally right that's y I try not to sell day olds I would much rather sell them at week, week and half old I have never heard of one of mine dying . but I did find out I sold 12 barred rocks that where only 2 moths old to a lady and after that it got down to like -10 out and 7 died I found out from her friend she put them in a big barn and no heat lamps

I'm experiencing this right now, too. Received 2 days ago, cold and half dead, so far 21/31 are dead. Last night I lost one I thought was healthy. At this point, I'm thinking of giving them antibiotics, thoughts?

Oh thats too bad, so sad to lose them at any time but to open the box and have soo many dead is horrible.
