Shocker Price for Feed

Wish we could send of our rain from the East to the Mid West. (Snip)
Lets hope for a shift in weather patterns over the winter, to replenish some of those ground waters.

Best,

Liz

We have been getting rain today, and I kept thinking "why isn't this hitting the middle of the country where it's needed?" Our summer weather comes from the Southwest, and we pray that it drops some rain on Nebraska on its way to New England.

I just started feeding whole oats to my flock and I just put a couple cups on top of their feed and then mix it in by hand.
Hmm, Ill try that, and see how it goes. I tried eggplant with them today and the young ones loved it! Im going to try adding some green peppers into their feed tomarrow (only the skin, no seeds) and see how it goes :)

Any recommendations on what seed companies to buy from? I'd prefer heirloom seeds, if possible. I have the land (10 acres), I just don't know where to start...

Anyone ever bought from the Sustainable Seed Company?

You are in WA, so go down to the feed store, or Big R, and buy a copy of The Capitol Press. In the classified, you will find ads from seed growers. Buy a 50 pound bag of pasture seed from them.

To begin with, you'll have the best luck with oats. It makes a good pasture grass. Orchard grass is excellent and I think it will grow OK on the wet side. It's what I grow for the geese here,

Eggplant sounds like a great idea! I never thought of that. I will have to try that. Thanks for the tips! As far as weather goes, our weather person did a large presentation and said the long term forecast for our portion of Nebraska looks the same for August as July :( My uncle said the same for him in Kansas :( It clouds up and looks like it could just pour any second, but then the clouds clear and sun comes out...again. I wish those clouds would just stop taunting us.

Just wondering if anyone has tried UltraKibble? I read by mixing it in with the feed, they eat less.

Yeah, Orchard will grow here. I get some good locally grown Orchard for my horses. It's not quite as nice as Eastern hay, but it's still good and half the price. I didn't realize oats make a good pasture grass. Is that before the oat grain develops?

How about Barley has anyone tried it and can ducks eat it okay.?

I think I read somewhere that barley is not a good feed for waterfowl. I think it was because they have a hard time digesting it, but I can't swear by that. I might be thinking of another grain...
