Shocker Price for Feed

About 200 right now, sometimes in the spring as many as 500. Plus around 50 ducks, the geese, turkeys, guineas....

Plus have to feed the horse, milk cow and calf, rabbits, dogs, cats, kids....
No wonder you go through so much feed a day, and how do the kids like it?

Was just joking about the kids. It probably would be cheaper to feed them out of a bag though.

I dread this year though seriously. I usually raise several wagon loads of corn to take to the mill, it really helps on the feed bill. This years corn, both fields, are a total loss. The last one planted I can at least turn the cows out in to graze down the fodder. The first crop I "might" get a few roasting ears for us to eat, but there will be none left for feed.

Going to be a hard winter.

Sure is, and very sorry ya'll have had such a dry one. We are praying for you all. It's going to be rough on everyone.

Ok, just got back from the co-op to pick up this weeks feed. Not as bad as I expected, but they said it was going to be going up weekly.

20 bags of feed today = $211.90, right around normal for us here.

Faithway 16% laying pellets - $10.90 per bag

Cumberland Mills 18% chick starter - $11.50 per bag

Faithway Scratch Grain - $11.80 per bag

Formax 14% all-stock - $8.25 per bag

Mill brand 18% rabbit pellets - $13.40 per bag

All 50 pound bags.

Still have to pick up the pig food, calf manna, Boss, dog, cat, catfish and pigeon feed.

Our feed use varies from month to month. Right now hatching season is winding down and I've started culling, so using a bit less feed than normal. By November we'll be using little or no chick feed but twice the laying pellets. Starting in March we'll be feeding three times as much chick feed as laying pellets. Scratch I only buy about every three months.

Wow your prices sure beat mine. course I don't buy as much as you though. Okay now about Boss last year it was really high, I haven't had to buy this year yet, has it gone up more staid the same or gone down? the last question made me laugh.

I only buy a bag of Boss once or twice a year.

Only my Heritage breeder birds get it and then only during the breeding season and then only at about 2% of their total diet.

Been so long since I bought any I can't remember what I paid last time.
