Shopping for Marans eggs? Start here before you buy....

I am very interested in the old French breeds(I have some family provenance). The Marans are beautiful. Does anyone know if we can obtain eggs directly from French breeders,and if so would the eggs be garbage by the time they arrive?

Even if you could ship eggs in from France they would either be too old or too scrambled by the time you got them.
Plenty of breeders right here in the US.

Thank you. That's why I asked.A bit off topic. Does anyone know of reputable breeders for LaFleche,Crevcouers and Houdans? Not bantams.

Ya I know Will is a great guy wish I could breed because I would get my foundation stock from him ! I think I might get a few wellsummer cull pullets in the spring or summer

Thank you,Solsken. I spoke with the head of the APA youth program today. She has LaFleche bantams, but a dog wiped out most of her stock.She mentioned a man in OK, but didn't give his name. I like the Salmon Faverolles too.Thanks again.

I got the feather legged cuckoos from Angi (HHH Farms), she is on the yahoo marans club.
92Caddy has La Fleche too. My stock came from Jack Barnes (his is the first pic of a La Fleche on feathersite). Mine are LF though
Jack also has the other breeds you mentioned, all 3 of them. I might be doing some hatching for him in the spring.....
I think the Marans are the only French breed he doesn't have......

i got my french copper black marans from maransguy(richard) they were $65 for a dz shipped by ups 2 day. he sent me 15 gorgous eggs and i hatched 2 pairs from them. his lines r from bev's and it was later in season eggs i got were about 4-5. the shipping was killer on them but they were packaged above and beyond so it's not his fault in anyway. i would recomend him no probs but i think usps does better handleing, lol.

as for cuckoo marans i got mine from crunchie i had a trio hatch from 4 eggs both clean legged and french. i got them in 2 assortments of polish for fun i got for $17 shipped for each set. i don't know who her lines r but i will tell u they r THE darkest choc egg i have ever seen and so gorgous my mouth dropped. i'd say they were about a 7-8 in color. the birds were just as wonderful both breeds and knock out birds. her birds r extremely fertile too. u want outstanding cuckoo marans or w/c black polish she is the ONLY breeder i recomend for those 2 breeds and i in a heartbeat would reccomend her to anyone and i always do. crunchie u r an outstanding breeder and have awesome exhibition quality stock(although i know u don't say they r trust me they r

) , u ROCK!!!!

Welcome to BYC Plowboy.

I don't expect perfect birds. I expect honest sellers. I feel my dealings with the folks I have talked to are reputable and I am recommending them based on my experience. I don't quite understand how politics comes into this. I ascribe to no one line or breeder.

What I can hope to share is folks should NOT pay 60-90 dollars a half dozen for eggs that are a #1 or 2 on the Marans egg scale.

For not wanting to bash, your post certainly had that tone. This is meant to be helpful. I am in essence sharing all my months and months of hard work only to be helpful to others. I am not friends with any of the breeders, do not have stock in their stock, and don't even share a state with any of them. So perhaps I don't understand what you are saying.....
