Hi all! My red bourbon hen abandoned some of her eggs after the first half hatched. One had pipped. I found it yesterday morning and tried putting it back under mama. She would sit on it for a little while and then abandon it again.

I brought the egg inside just now and have it set up on a heat pad in a steamy bathroom. Should I assist the hatch? The membrane has started to turn brown. It is still moving and I heard a few peeps when I first carried it inside
Let us know how it goes, if you don't mind. You will get really good info from @casportpony. She is very knowledgeable. :hugs

It looks like she's able to breathe and situated properly (I think) so just let her rest for a while. If it looks like the membrane is drying, re-apply the oil, but otherwise she's probably just resting. Sometimes they take longer than others. Chipping away that egg shell is difficult, and absorption takes time.

You're doing great! Just gotta wait for a little bit!

Sorry for the misspelling, I turned off auto correct, and I'm not great at catching everything.
