Hello,

this is my first post on here. i brought 3 hens for my backyard around 3 months ago. they only really just got used to the area and unfortunately i am going away tomorrow and wont be back for around 5 weeks. Earlier today i took them to a friend to look after (who has 4 of his own chickens) whilst i am away. almost straight away they started pecking at each other which is to be expected so i am not so worried about this.
However what i am worried about is whether or not they will have a hard time. for the past few months they have been well fed and had a large area to run around in so they are used to pretty good conditions. however the area which they will be staying at for 5 weeks are nowhere near as good.
i have a few questions
1. Will they adapt to the area fairly quickly.
2. when they get back to my back yard will they re-adapt to the area again or will i have to treat it as though they have never been there.
3. will they survive. as i mentioned previously, they are used to very good conditions here, grass, corn etc. whereas where they are now, they are on concrete and will only really have seeds etc.

thanks in advance

Are they separated or did they add them to their flock? That I would worry about. Hopefully they are kept separately. They should remember your yard when you take them back. It's always possible they pick up some disease from your friends chickens and vice versa, so hopefully you both understood the risks.

Thank you for your comment. The chickens are not separate unfortunately as he didn't have enough space elsewhere. However I am almost certain that my chickens and his both have been fully vaccinated.

Thanks again for your reply
