Should I be worried...?

First off, sorry for your loss.

Are they getting enough calcium?

What do you feed them?

Has there been any sort of stress?

It's weird that you were able to clean it off, otherwise I would say the pigment on the egg was a little off. Sometimes chickens just have a malfunction on the egg process and come up with odd eggs.
I was NOT able to clean it. Same egg. 180 turn.
Im feeding Layerina crumbles (they don't like pellets for some reason). They get all my eggshell crumbles mixed in. They are fed mealworms 2-3 times a week. Grapes, berries, HB egg, etc.once a week...

This time of year weird eggs are very common. I got one today that looked and felt fine but when peeled the shell had little to no integrity and it was nearly chocolate brown normally nearly pink. Just wintertime weirdness.
OK. that may explain the extremely soft shell on the other egg.

Maybe feed the eggshells separately than mixed into their feed. That way they can eat it when they want or need to. I just keep a small dish of eggshell and oyster shell in their run area. When they empty it, I refill it - which isn’t often.
